A Decade Of Muses

With today being our 10th anniversary, we can’t help but look back.  Back at the year 2004, back at our very first website, and back at the many beautiful faces who have graced the pages of our site and catalogs.  We’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of our personal style muses on catalogs – Erin Wasson, Dree Hemmingway, Lou Doillon, just to name a few.  It’s also cool to see models we’ve worked with for years, like Martha Hunt and Elsa Hosk, come so far in their careers and blossom into the stunning women they are today. Today, take a little trip down memory lane with us as we look back at a decade of Free People muses…

Martha Hunt

martha hunt

Look how young Martha Hunt is! This was from a lookbook back in October 2010.  Martha is one of the models we’ve worked with frequently ever since – some of her highlights include the Paris catalog from January 2011 (still a favorite of mine) and channeling Kate Moss on the streets of London in October 2012’s “It Girl” catalog.

With Martha above is Elsa Hosk, another beauty we’ve had the pleasure of working with quite a bit.  A baby-faced Elsa actually first appeared in our August 2009 catalog, which you may remember as the one that featured some of the adorable adoptable animals from PAWS!

This 1970s inspired shoot in Morocco from our 2011 holiday book is still a favorite of mine.

Also in the August 2009 catalog? Lily Aldridge!

behati prinsloo

Speaking of young, check out Behati Prinsloo all the way back in our February 2010 catalog! I completely forgot we even worked with her prior to last year’s e-book.

noot seear

Noot Seear is another FP favorite – here she is in our July 2010 catalog, and more recently below, tugging at our heart strings in The Cabin.

We first worked with Sheila Marquez on our October 2012 lookbook “Lady of the Canyon,” before she became the star of our Roshambo series.

One of my all-time favorites – the beautiful Sasha Pivovarova in our April 2011 catalog.

We were so excited to work with Karlie Kloss on our January 2012 catalog – she appeared again later that year in our July catalog opposite another muse, Aline Weber.

I love this shot of Aline from our March 2011 catalog.

Another major muse – Freja Beha Erichsen in our February 2012 book.

I was lucky enough to attend this shoot with three of our favorites, Ashley Smith, Anastasia Khodkina, and Jessica Mau in Austin shot by Alexandra Valenti! Anastasia is still a familiar face around our home office and has made many appearances in our model off duty posts – she has amazing personal style. Jessica Mau has appeared in a few of our west coast editorials!

Cutie Camille Rowe appeared in a 4th of July themed lookbook back in summer of 2012, and more recently in our Intimates e-book.

Marloes Horst also appeared in an intimates e-book, but first she appeared in our August 2011 catalog shot in Venice.

Daisy Lowe brought a smile to all of our faces in our short film Neighbor.

Dree Hemingway and Lou Doillon appeared in our October 2012 Style Muse catalog.

And last but certainly not least, who could forget Erin Wasson and the epic Ride?

Just a heads-up – Dree’s last name is spelled “Hemingway” with one “m,” like the author (she is his great-granddaughter, after all). :)

No recognition for Jenny Lopez!? She is the most breathtaking of all these beauties and I know she has been in many FP catalogs. I tend to see her face most often when I just think of Free People.

The 2013 Holiday Catalog Water section had me slack-jawed, fired-up, & inspired! I used every page as a set of directions on dressing in layers (even here in SD, CA – no winter), and cut up the WHOLE catalog for cards and journal pages! Getting a Free People Catalog in the mail is better than getting a Vogue. It’s like a picture book for women. The best part of my job at lululemon athletica in the mall is that there is a Free People store down the way.
