I love exploring new cities and this week I’m hitting the road once again, bound for Richmond, VA.
It’s a city I’ve never been to, but one I’ve heard good things about and I’m excited to have a look around. I’ll be rolling into town with a few other coworkers for our Food & Fashion Festival at FP Richmond and photographing our FP Me shoot (it’s going to be gorgeous), so for this trip comfort is key. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for full coverage of all things FP Richmond!
Here’s what I’m packing for a few days of food, fashion, and lots of exploring. Have you visited Richmond before? I’d love to know what your must-see stops are!

The weather this time of year is so fickle — cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon — I’m making sure I pack plenty of layering options. This patterned shawl is the perfect thing to wrap around a tee in the morning, and will double as a blanket later in the afternoon if I happen to find myself lounging beneath an apple tree.

There’s no time for heels when I’m running around with a camera all day – this pairing feels perfectly vintage-inspired but will still allow me to move around as much as I need to. I’m so excited that it’s finally beanie season, I always stash a couple of easy hats in my bag so there’s no need to worry about my hair.

Some spots to visit:
*Bygones on Careystreet- right next to the Byrd Theatre lives this adorable shop that sells reproduction vintage items. Everything from beaded flapper dresses to feathery headbands to wedding dresses to lipstick is accounted for. Hands down my favorite shop.
*Carter Mountain- just an hour outside Richmond, this mountain boasts of fresh apples for the picking and the best apple cider donut you will ever experience.
*Dixie Donuts- on the topic of donuts, Dixie has the best pumpkin spice cake donut ever. I would recommend to everyone.
*Hope Thrift- a church-run thrift store inside which hide great treasures; everything from vintage clothes to old cameras. You’re sure to find something you love!
*Kuba Kuba- located in Careytown, this hole-in-the-wall restaurant offers authentic Cuban food to please any palate. Personal fave: Huevos Rancheros- avocado, beans, salsa, and sour cream atop a thick slice of toast. Similar to Kuba Kuba is The Galley.

Check out the 43 rd Street Gallery, they feature a lot of local artists, with all different exhibits, pottery, jewelry, etc.
Also, Dixie Donuts really is worth the stop! So good!

Hi! I’ve lived in Richmond my whole life and love it so I hope you enjoy your visit! FP Richmond is technically a bit outside of Richmond and that area isn’t the best representation of our beautiful, unique city, so please, please come East a few minutes into The Fan and Carytown. Here are a few quick recommendations for off the beaten path, but please feel free to contact me for more info: Lamplighter on Addison is my favorite place for awesome locally roasted coffee and good food…it’s an old gas station so it has a unique feel and there’s vintage shopping across the street! Check out YH Mercantile and Halcyon on Robinson. This is in The Fan, just a few blocks down from Carytown, where you can find some other great second-hand stores and fun shops (Go to the Aquarian Bookstore for stones and a psychic reading or Ellwood Thompson’s natural grocery store!). For nightlife, a lot of people would tell you to check out Shockoe Bottom, but in my opinion it’s just wayyyyy too much down there so personally I enjoy the slightly quieter bars of The Fan. The Shockoe Bottom area does have a cool Edgar Allan Poe museum and a gorgeous view of the city in Libbie Hill Park, by day. I recommend art galleries Quirk and Gallery 5 (and old fire station)…also in that area is New Normal Apparel, who makes their own clothing with sustainable materials and eco-friendly screen printing ink (they also carry jewelry made by my studio mates and I…sorry, shameless plug! :) Seriously, let me know if you have any questions about my lovely city! Hey! I am two hours away from Richmond where I live! It is such an exciting place to visit. So many wide range of options for anybody. With vintage cafes and art museums, it is truly a cool place! Have fun on your trip!

The Richmond FP store is actually in Short Pump, which is NOT Richmond. I have lived in Richmond my whole life. If you go into the city, Carytown is a great place for shopping around for vintage and fun pieces. So much yummy food there too—Can Can Brasserie, Galaxy Diner, Carytown Burgers and Fries, and Ellwood Thompson’s local all-natural supermarket. The Byrd Theater on Cary St. plays movies that are no longer showing in your average Regal theater and tickets are just $2! A couple blocks down, there’s the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts—free admission to see so many beautiful works, including some famous artists, and everything in their cafe is delicious. Between Shockoe Bottom, the Fan district, and the Canal, there are so many cool bars to choose from. If the weather permits, take a walk down the James River on Belle Isle. The river is what really encapsulates the city for a lot of Richmonders.
My favorite places in RVA are both delicious little sandwich shops! If you are a sandwich lover like me, definitely make time for Uptown Deli and Black Sheep. Have fun!!

deff go to carytown, try going to the james river park (its all over the city) belle isle is the most popular but pony pasture is my favorite, go to crossroads coffee on forest hill ave, try to catch a movie at the byrd, if you're here on a saturday go to south of the james farmers market (8am-12, also off of forest hill ave). you have to go to ell woods thompsons. its the best local/organic market and they have awesome prepared food. i would agree to avoid schockoe bottom night life, its all frat ass holes and a very bro scene (trust me i used to live down there). check out ashby in carytown, its a consignment store. also if you can find it go to the goatacado food cart…SO GOOD.
for an FPme shoot will you just be shooting the girls at the store? i'm a richmond resident and i'd looove to me involved in this!
