Wherever You Go, Go With All Your Heart

This post comes from our good friend Paris of the blog Charcoal Alley! Check out her takeover today on our Instagram feed!

Is it possible to have a love affair with an island? Kauai was amazing. I feel so blessed to have a deep connection to a place that nurtures and calls to me. Going back feels like going home… she replenishes me… body, mind, and soul. Do you have a magical place that you return to again and again, to be lifted up and healed? Gaia, nature, this beautiful blue sphere is such a gift to each of us. It’s easy to become caught up in this crazy wave of technology and thought-made forms that wash over us in this modern era. Digital images, endless, information, complicated systems, new ideas… it can feel overwhelming, impossible for one to keep up. Everyone I know is working harder than ever! It’s all good and it’s all wonderful, but it’s oh so necessary to remember to stop from time to time to reconnect with the natural, the heartfelt, the elements and the land, sea, and sky.

If a trip to the islands isn’t in the cards right now, the best of what the land has to offer is still available to you… wherever you are. Feeling overwhelmed? Nothing beats walking or sitting on the grass. Look up at the blue sky, and let your mind melt into its vastness. The earth is constantly sending out her healing vibrations. Step outside and take a few deep breaths. Let your chaotic or upset energies flow out with your exhale… then, inhale and fill your lungs and entire body with a spacious, cleansing breath. With just three intentional breaths, the world (your inner world) will have shifted. Whenever you can, close your eyes, face the sun and let the life-giving light flood your system as your eyelids light up in a dance of orange, gold, and red. Feel it. If you can’t get outside, you can still take some intentional breaths, or run your hands under warm water for a short minute to ground and reset.

“Your seriousness is about sandcastles. And you yourself will leave them one day, trampling them down, and you will not look back. The people who take it seriously miss the beauty of playfulness.” I came across this mind-expanding Osho quote the other day, at a time when I was taking life a little too seriously (Yes, I can get like that). But it really woke me up, and I could hear the truth in those words. We are humans… we are here to know joy… we are here to experience, and play… we are loved beyond measure… and we are always supported. Simply turn and open yourself to it.

Amazing photos and photo edits! Love the fishtail in her hair and the quotes about seriousness being sandcastles. So beautiful.

Kauai is my favorite Island too! My husband and I hiked to Hanakapiai Falls there and it was so worth it. We both refer to that trip as the best one so far in our lives.
