Walk Slowly: A Poem

Last week, one of my wonderful yoga instructors closed out an incredible class with the poem Walk Slowly by Danna Faulds.

My eyes were still closed from shavasana, and each successive word seemed to find its way deep within me, resonating a teeny bit more than the last. The lines are built around concepts that we’ve touched upon right here on this blog many times before: Slow it down. Take a breath. Be kind to yourself. Enjoy every big beautiful moment of the life you live.

I love the power this poem holds, yet how it’s done with such simplicity. After hearing it just once, I’ve found certain portions echoing in my head on multiple occasions. I just knew I had to share it with you. We, in this life, have a lot to be thankful for. Take a moment to slow it down. Enjoy.

Walk Slowly

It only takes a reminder to breathe,

a moment to be still, and just like that,

something in me settles, softens, makes

space for imperfection. The harsh voice

of judgment drops to a whisper and I

remember again that life isn’t a relay

race; that we will all cross the finish

line; that waking up to life is what we

were born for. As many times as I

 forget, catch myself charging forward

without even knowing where I’m going,

that many times I can make the choice

to stop, to breathe, and be, and walk

 slowly into the mystery.

Gorgeous. I had to read two times. The first I read it so fast. Then I remembered I wasn’t in a worry, I took time to slowly read it and to embrace the pictures too. We see so many pictures everyday that sometimes is almost as we don’t see them. Thank you Brigette!

Thank you so much for sharing this poem. These days, it feels like everything needs to be rushed and done in a hurry. Sometimes, we need to be reminded to slow down and be quiet. Will also share this poem and hopefully inspire others as it did me. Thanks!

Such a beautiful poem! I am an artist and writer, and poetry is my favorite.
