FP Me Stylist Of The Week: FrisqueBusiness

FrisqueBusiness, aka Erin Carter, is a mega babe.

On our trip to Chicago this past summer, I met Erin behind the scenes of one of our FP Me shoots. She’s a sweet gal with a hell of a style, and has a presence that’s effortless. While she’s not working as a stylist at Free People Southport, she attends art school at Columbia College. Styling is something that comes pretty naturally for Erin, and she loves to put forth her talents to help make her customers look and feel great. I was only around Erin for a short amount of time, but I got the vibe that this girl could bring life and fun to any situation. Check out her pics, and get to know a little bit more about her below!

Where do you currently live and how do you think your city shapes your lifestyle?

I currently live in the South Loop of Chicago where I attend Columbia College but I also head home to the suburbs pretty often because I’m so close with my parents (Hi mom!). Going to school, living and working downtown have made my life pretty fast paced so I’ve really got a routine down. I’m constantly on the subway (particularly the brown line, which is above ground) so I have this little book of places that I see and write down so I can eventually try. It’s also very, very cold in Chicago in the winter so I can’t help but point out that right now all I want to do is watch Gilmore Girls and eat food in bed (Sorry mom!).

What do you think is the best kept secret within your city?

CHICAGO SUMMERS! I doubt that it’s a secret but you can actually feel the happiness from everyone throughout the city because it’s SO MUCH FUN. There’s always something to do and people to see. Best part about Chicago is by far the summer.

If your best friend were doing an impersonation of you, how would they quote you?

They would probably sing some Aaron Carter song and then talk about being frisky; maybe they would eat some cheese. It’s the little things.

How do you think your personality reflects your personal style?

I like to wear what makes me happy. This winter it’s been a lot of mom jeans and ankle boots or whatever makes me feel cool… because apparently mom jeans make me feel cool…

If you could only wear three Free People items for the next year what would they be and why?

I recently purchased the Lalelei Tunic and wow, is it versatile! You can layer it in the winter and fall and in the spring and summer it makes for the most effortless tank dress when paired with a simple sandal, cross body bag, and cool sunglasses. The Slouchy Vegan Tote is by far my most used FP item. It’s simple, chic, and practical which are the three most important qualities you want in a purse when you live in a big city. It matches everything and comes with so much! I keep all my necessities in the small pouch, I use the cross body strap when I’m chilly (Because who knew? The bag can even keep you warm in freezing Chicago winters) and it completes all of my outfits. The third item would probably be the Raw Destroyed Boyfriend. LOVE a good boyfriend jean.

What is the most rewarding part about working in the stores as being a Free People Stylist?

I think I can speak for most FP stylists when I say that putting an outfit together comes pretty naturally for us. What we don’t realize very often is that it doesn’t come as easily for a lot of our customer base. When I can help a customer find a perfect outfit for something and they look at me and say, “I would have never thought of that!” I can’t help but feel like I’m really doing what I’m meant to do. I really strive to make sure a customer knows I want to be there with them. Working at Free People has helped shape me into my best self.

If you choose any celebrity to style, who would it be and what would you put them in?

Nicole Richie and I would put her in The Troy Dress (aka the dress of my DREAMS) with that purple hair of hers. Then we would crack jokes and become best friends forever.

I see from your photos you love to travel a lot. If the options were limitless, where in the world would you go and what would you do there?

My boyfriend just bought me a season pass to all the National Parks! I think instead of us visiting a few, I would want to go on a trip together and camp at every single one of them. Antelope Canyon, Moab, Yosemite, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Zion, oh my gosh…. all of them.

What’s one quote that you live your life by?

Always strive to be the most enthusiastic and positive person you meet in the day (!!!!)

What does ‘free’ mean to you?

Two things! One: I think that once you stop taking yourself so seriously and are able to laugh at yourself when you make mistakes or at your quirks, then you’ll be able to live life with more ease and more ‘freely.’ Two: I believe that there is some freedom in the structure or routine you build for yourself. I moved home after going to college in Montana for three years and I had to make a whole new set of goals and a long-term plan to get back on track with school. I spent the past year trying to better myself and working towards something important to me, now that I’ve accomplished the goals I had set, I can see how much hard work and being your own best friend can help set you free.

I completely share her obsession with national parks. Whenever you need to get away, or “re-center” yourself, they do the job perfectly.

This story of the stylist has altered my state of reality. I’m from Crystal Lake (a suburb an hour outside of Chicago), I moved to Bozeman, MT to peruse schooling, and I dream everyday of somehow making my way on to the free people team. I’m so amazed and joyful to see someone making my dreams a reality. We must be on a common brainwave. Power to you sister.
