If there’s one seasonal drink that screams “HOLIDAY” louder than all the rest… it’s egg nog. It’s spicy, it’s sweet, it’s oddly comforting on a cold winter’s day, but despite all those virtues, there seems to be no grey area for the ‘nog: people either seem to love it or hate it. Personally, while I like the taste, I’ve never been one to indulge, mostly because of the ingredients list, so I went in search of a homemade alternative. And people, I have some good news for you.
If you’ve been turned off from the dairy- and egg-version of this drink in the past, today I have a homemade, whole-food take on this holiday classic that’s raw, dairy-free, and completely vegan. I recommend getting your hands on a high-speed, high-quality blender for this recipe, otherwise your final outcome will be delicious, but closer to that of a smoothie.
Healthy Raw (Vegan) Egg Nog
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups raw nuts (I used 1 cup of cashews and 1/2 cup of pecans) soaked in warm water for at least two hours, but preferably four
1/2 cup full-fat canned coconut milk
3/4 cup pitted raw dates (about 4-5)
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ginger
Raw honey to taste (optional)
2 cups fresh water
Rum (optional)
After you’ve soaked the cashews and pecans, drain the soaking water and combine all ingredients (except rum, if using) in a blender. Blend on high until liquefied, adding more water or coconut milk as needed.
Pour into serving glasses and add rum if using. Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg before serving. Enjoy!

Great one! I am making something similar for a holiday party this weekend, but I am going to try young coconut meat and water instead of the can! I have a lot of raw vegan recipes on my site!

This. Looks. Divine! Thanks so much for the recipe. I have a bit of a coconut milk obsession and this will satiate it perfectly.

LOVE egg not but not the fat or artificial ingredients. Can’t wait to try this recipe although I’m quite worried about the ginger part! I’ll give it a try.

Hey, this is a really nice recipe, however, I just need to mention that honey is not a vegan ingredient. Unless you are using “vegan” honey (which I have never seen before) this recipe is not vegan. Try something like Agave if you want extra sweetness.
