10 More One-Ingredient Beauty Tips

One of the reasons I love natural beauty products so much is that they’re so simple. Just one ingredient can go a long, long way. Last year we shared five of our favorite one-ingredient beauty tips, and today I’m sharing ten more. There is an infinite amount to add to this list, so if you have any favorites, please share!

Beauty_Tips_1

This has been my go-to for quite some time. If you’ve never tried it, you’re going to be amazed at how quickly jojoba oil dissolves eye makeup – even mascara, which can be tricky to remove. Just apply some to your lids with a cotton ball, gently massaging as you go, and then wash your face as usual. Pure magic!

Beauty_Tips_2

Use a banana is a gentle way to hydrate and soften sensitive skin. Bananas contain lots of beautiful nutrients, like zinc, iron, manganese, and vitamins A, B, C, and E. Mash one up and apply to clean, damp skin. Let sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry. Voila!

Beauty_Tips_3

I learned this incredible tip when I tried going shampoo-free last winter: arrowroot flour is a wonderful way to soak up unwanted oil. Just use your fingertips to apply to your roots – a little at a time – and brush through if necessary. If arrowroot alone is too light-colored for your hair, you can add a little cocoa powder to the mix!

Beauty_Tips_4

We know ghee as a sacred ingredient in ayurvedic diets, but this magical ingredient can be used for beauty, as well! The next time you’re cooking with it, apply a tiny amount to your lips to add a healthy amount of moisture in a snap. Learn more about the benefits of ghee – and how to make your own!

Beauty_Tips_5

Whole-milk yogurt is surprisingly an excellent way to cleanse the skin. The milk fat sucks out impurities, while the lactic acid acts as a gentle exfoliator. Simply massage a small amount into your skin, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry.

Beauty_Tips_6

Tea tree oil is one of the strongest natural antiseptics out there. It’s also antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and more. To help nip acne-causing bacteria in the bud, dilute some tea tree oil in water and use as a spot treatment before bed.

Beauty_Tips_7

Rich in antioxidants like vitamin A and carotene, carrot seed oil makes for a gorgeously hydrating face serum. Massage a few drops into freshly cleansed skin, and let the moisture sink in at once.

Beauty_Tips_8

Cucumber is known for its ability to cool and calm the skin. Puree one in a blender, extract the juice, and apply to your face and neck to tone the skin and cleanse the pores. Leave on for about a half hour, then rinse with cool water.

Beauty_Tips_9

Similar to lemons, oranges contain natural acids that are great for exfoliating the skin – only oranges are much more mild. After showering, splash your body with freshly-squezed orange juice and massage into the skin for a gentle, natural exfoliation.

Beauty_Tips_10

Rosehip oil is an excellent way to soften, hydrate, and revitalize dry hair. Simply warm some up (over the stove or just in your hands), and massage into your scalp and hair, focusing on the ends. Leave on for about an hour, and then wash hair as usual.

I really love these ideas. It’s nice to know you’re really putting something natural on your skin. I don’t think I would’ve have ever put my Ghee on my lips, but it certainly makes sense.

Coconut oil also works amazingly as eye-make up remover! And it’s much, much cheaper than jojoba oil, if you’re on a budget :)

careful with tea tree oil! I used some the other day and was fine at first, but then my face started burning! It went away after about ten minutes of pressing my face to a wet cloth, but now I’m pretty sure i’m allergic. not fun!

Thanks for another great DIY beauty post! Can’t wait to try the banana face mask! I’m struggling with adult acne and started using apple cider vinegar as astringent every night. It works really well and makes your face feel soft!

Raw honey as a face wash! Raw honey typically crystallizes, so it works as a gentle exfoliant until the crystals warm up and moisturize your face. I’ve found that it works very well in controlling acne, too, because it’s anti-bacterial.

Laurel — tea tree oil is very strong, so it might just be an issue with the potency rather than an allergy. So sorry that happened to you!! It’s best to mix a little bit in water or in a carrier oil like jojoba! xo

I actually use rosehip seed oil as a face serum! It’s really nice and hydrating since my skin is super dry and I live in a really dry and cold climate. I also have been using just straight argon oil on my hair, just rubbing it into the ends while it’s damp. Thanks for these new tips, most of them I hadn’t read before :) can’t wait to try them!

Could you elaborate more on the rosehip oil? Where would I be able to buy it?

Sana, rosehip oil can be found online on amazon, check this product, it is 100% organic: http://amzn.to/190qiLi , I recommend this.
Maybe you can find it online on other stores too. It is a great moisturizer for the skin , it can be used in your bath or on your hair as the article says. It can also be used on the skin to help treat eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, scars and stretch marks. I have used it on my kid who had psoriasis and did a great job.
I have also used it on skin after laser treatments as a moisturizer. It is one of the best essential oils.

Love this post and the simplicity :) There are so many ingredients in ones kitchen that could be used for beauty, both externally and internally! Also, I have heard about arrow root so often now, I guess I got to look into it more!

Rose water as toner for dry skin and coconut oil is the best and natural make up remover. And inexpensive eye makeup remover and also coat and strengthen lashes.
