Blogger Picks: January Catalog

A new year means a fresh start, and I like to think our January catalog marks the beginning of another 365 days full of fashion and fresh inspiration. Anja Rubik was the beauty who graced the pages of this book, and her attitude in each shot made the clothes speak for themselves. As I flipped through the pages, I loved seeing the combination of new and old in the styling. There’s those classic layered up outfits, where print meets print in the perfect harmony, but also looks that express a more simplistic touch, where the styling is clean, cool, and true. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, you should probably head over here to see it for yourself.

In celebration of the first catalog of the year, the other bloggers and I went through and picked out our most loved pieces. See how we’re styling them below!

There’s something about a flowing white maxi dress that captures my heart season after season. One peek into my spring and summer wardrobes, and you’ll get a first-hand glimpse into my most obvious stylistic obsession. But this spring, I’m excited to change things up (just a little bit) by mixing in sets. Worn together or mixed with other pieces, this gorgeous white lace set would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe. Since winter is still very much upon us, I’m wearing it now with over the knee boots, a cozy sweater and a wide-brim hat. Plenty of layers to keep me warm but still show off all the important details.julie2

For me, the refreshing styling in the January catalog inspired me to simplify my wardrobe choices a bit. Less is more sometimes and I wanted to try my hand at styling an easy, modern take on vintage 1960’s vibes. Immediately these Stripe Flare Maxi Pants caught my eye and screamed my name. I could probably wear flares everyday if I wanted to because the silhouette compliments the length of my legs so well. You wouldn’t know it by just looking at them, but I swear these pants could double as pajamas… they are so comfortable. I chose to pair them with this kimono jacket because the shape feels completely refreshed in a denim textile. The geometric design in this statement breastplate harness adds to the modern approach. Instead of overwhelming a look with influences and inspirations, I find they often come across best when only a subtle touch is present.

As I was flipping through the January catalog, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the menswear inspiration. To match a touch of menswear with the effortless feel of our spring silhouettes is, well, heaven to me. I love clean, oversized, and classic pieces and the Cotton Slouchy Boyfriend Jacket is the perfect piece to bring into spring. I can’t wait to wear it in California with vintage denim cutoffs, a shapeless cropped linen tee, and some beaten up high top converse. I can already feel the warm California sun…

If anyone knows me, they’ll recognize my love for statement making pants, and in my opinion, the softer the better. The FP ONE Fez Sweatpants are something I can see myself wearing over and over again. I love the washed purple tone against the black embroidery, and the intricate design makes them so much more than your average pair of sweatpants. Dressed up or down, these will be a staple in my year to come.

I love these looks. My fav is the first one. They are so easy, comfy, and refreshing. I think sometimes I overthink my outfits but I have a lot of versatility planned for 2015. I can’t wait to experiment. Great read as always Free People.

Loving the January cataloge! Too much good stuff!!
The models makeup is so beautiful and fresh looking. I would love to see a blog post on how your stylist archived the look and how to recreate it at home. So many talented people go into each cataloge shoot, would be great to see how it’s done!
Thanks do much!!
