FP Me Stylist Of The Week: Ceceproskauer

There are some pictures that I’ll come across from time to time that make me pause, stare, and wish that I could be right there… in that very moment…

Cecilia Proskauer’s photos have that ability. This is a girl who’s caught my eye, with her free-spirited style and the sense of adventure that’s captured in each of her photographs. She seems to always surround herself with some of Earth’s most beautiful creations: Golden fields, lush forests, rolling hills… the west coast is where she calls home. When she’s not working as a store stylist at Free People San Diego, she’s outside exploring and capturing moments through the lens of her camera. I was drawn to Cecilia because of her captivating photographic vision, and I just had to know more. I’m not lying when I say I’ve scrolled through her Instagram and wanted to like every single one of her pictures. Hopefully, you all will find her imagery just as inspiring as I do. Have a look and meet Cecilia below!

Where do you currently live and where else have you lived in your life?

Right now I’m located in sunny San Diego , California. I have spent half of my life here and I couldn’t be happier. San Diego is such a grand city in that it has a vast range of things to offer, from its sandy beaches to its incredible forest. Before I lived in San Diego I used to live across the border in Tijuana, in a beach town called Playas. It was truly a one of a kind experience growing up right next to the beach. You could walk down from my house right to the beach. I still remember those early mornings and evenings spent on those beaches. All the people I love and have grown up with are only a couple minutes away from me. That feeling is truly incredible.

What do you think is the best kept secret within your city?

I think the best kept secret in San Diego is the small neighborhoods and communities that exist within the city. They are full of great food, amazing people, tasteful breweries and lively art. Another perk is the easy access to some of California’s best beaches, along with the usual San Diego sunny weather.

Describe a typical day in the life of Cecilia…

When I’m not styling at Free People, I like to start off my day with a warm cup of coffee, and a good tune to dance around all over the house before planning my daily adventure. I am a huge outdoors person and I make sure to surround myself everyday with beautiful settings and the people I love. Every day for me is an opportunity to explore, create memories and capture them through photographs.

How do you think your personality reflects your personal style?

If I had to describe my personality I would say I am a big tomboy, who doesn’t take herself too seriously, loves to have a good time and to laugh. My style is greatly influenced by my personality. I am always outdoors and looking for adventures, so I like to think of my style as an outdoors girl with a hint of fashion. Every time I go out on an adventure I think “what would Indiana Jones wear?” Fashion has always been a huge part of my life and I love to look fashionable, but feel comfortable at the same time because I’m always on the go. For me it’s very important to feel free in what I wear.

Your pictures capture my attention time and time again. Is photography something you’ve always been drawn to?

Awe, thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Yes, I’ve always had a passsion for photography. One of my biggest loves is cinema and it’s the same process as photography — planning a shot frame by frame. Photography has always been a big part of my life. For as a long as I can remember I have been adventuring with my amazing best friends while learning and enjoying the process of photography. I recently started venturing into photography myself. I don’t just want to be the model, but the one behind the lens as well.

What do you think makes for a perfect picture?

What I think makes a perfect picture besides the important elements — like composition and lighting — is the story attached to each shot. What that photograph represents and captures at that moment. Photography is such a beautiful art that involves many different types of elements coming together to form the perfect picture. I might add… having a beautiful setting does help to make a picture truly perfect.

What’s one quote that you live your life by?

One quote that I live by daily is a one I made up for myself: “Practice kindness and give kindness.” It’s very important to me to be kind to others. I am a huge practician of personal growth and there is no better reward then giving yourself fully to others, without any barriers. It truly makes you feel lighter, happier and a much more caring human being.

What are three songs that you can’t stop listening to?

I have a wide range of musical taste, but lately my biggest obsession has been blues, folk and some good old country. I find myself listening non-stop to Willie Nelson, Nikki Lane and She & Him. Some of my top tunes right now are from those artists I am constantly playing over and over again. “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson, because it perfectly describes what I love about the road. Another top tune of mine right now is “Wild One” by Nikki Lane, anything by this artist is just truly amazing. Last but not least, “Stars fell on Alabama” by She & Him, I love the rendition of this song by the lovely Zoey D. and M. Ward, the lyrics are just so powerful and beautiful.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

My biggest accomplishments are my travels. You are what you see and what you explore. Every time I visit a new place with different cultures and values I feel like I grow and become a better person. I have met some of the most incredible people on the road. The backpacking community is truly unbelievable and once you backpack you never go back. I have become my travels, what I have seen, who I have met and where I am planning to go next.

Five years from now, where do you hope to be?

Where I find myself being five years from now would be surrounded by lushness and nature. Ideally in some part of Oregon where I would own some land; where I could have my own garden, with a couple chickens and a goat. I see myself throwing big parties and bringing people together… just having these amazing potlucks full of friends, amazing food and laughter. Also doing what I love and creating beautiful scenarios for weddings.

What does being “free” mean to you?

Being free to me is just living without caring what others think. Pretty much just being yourself without barriers. It’s a beautiful thing to be truly free, to fully let yourself be and finding out how amazing that is. When you are free you are pretty much unstoppable, you love more, you laugh more and you enjoy life to the fullest.
