FP Me Stylist Of The Week: FPltengy

This weeks featured FP Me stylist comes to us from the booming Big Apple, and boy, is she a beaut.

Lauren, aka FPltengy, is a stylist, art lover and creator. When not working at Free People 5th Ave, she’s busy finishing up her last year at NYU. From exploring the streets of New York to hitting the surf at the shore, Lauren embodies everything of a true FP girl. Her style is a little bit city, but gelled together with the colors and easy going vibes of the beach. She has a striking presence in all of her pictures, and it’s one that leaves you questioning what more there might be to her story. Meet Lauren, and find out below!

Where are you from? How has this shaped the person that you are today?

I’m originally from Boston, but I spent the majority of my childhood living in a small town on the seacoast of New Hampshire. Growing up in New England has left a lasting impression on my character. Living in a small town has been the biggest inspiration for me to explore as much of the world as I can.

Where do you currently live? What’s the best kept secret about your part of town?

I currently live in New York City and my apartment is located in Chelsea. As an art lover I think the best kept secret in my neighborhood is the Rubin Museum of Art. The Rubin Museum has a great collection and is never crowded, which is amazing and extremely rare.

Can you give us a day in the life of Lauren?

A typical day in my life begins with a coffee from la Colombe then straight to classes. I’m in my last year studying Art History and Studio Art at New York University. From class I usually head to work, the gym, or out to grab food with my girlfriends. When I’m not in class or working you can find me surfing with my boyfriend Tom; and yes, occasionally there are waves in New York.

How did you find your way to Free People? What’s your favorite part about your job?

I first started with URBN Inc. at Anthropologie in Boston a few summers ago. I loved working for Anthropologie, but Free People has been my favorite store since I was probably 14 years old. When I returned to New York for a new school year in the fall of 2013, I jumped at the opportunity to work at 5th Avenue! My favorite part of my job is making people feel beautiful. There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing someone smile as a result of a suggestion I made.

What’s one thing you are willing to share with us that a stranger walking down the street wouldn’t be able to tell from first glance?

I’m terrified of Caterpillars.

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?

If I didn’t know how old I was I would probably guess around 30, because I would rather cuddle up with a book for the night than go out to a club.

If you had to move to another state or country besides the one you live in now, where would it be, and why?

I would move to Italy. I studied abroad in Italy last year and it has since become my most favorite place. The food, the culture, the art, the sights, the sea… all are unique to Italy and unlike anything else in this world.

If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?

I would constantly travel around the world and never stay in one place for more than a month.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Of all the advice I have been given in my 21 years I would have to say the best advice has been from my mother, who has taught me to not get so upset over the little things because life is to short to “cry when someone uses the fancy bath towels.”

What does being “free” mean to you?

To me, being free means having the ability to make yourself whoever and whatever you want to be, through a series of decisions and choices that ultimately shape who you become.

Love her style and she seems so chill and easy going. I love her idea of constantly traveling if our lifespan was only 40 years. When I was little I dreamed of buying an RV and traveling the world…like a gypsy! :)
