The Beauty of A Sunset

This post comes from our blog intern, Aubrie

Why is it that when our eyes fix onto the warm colors of the setting sun we’re transported to an enchanted world? Most people can agree that a good sunset holds the power to stop just about anyone in their tracks — studies have even shown that instances of awe in watching sunsets cause psychological effects that enhance long-lasting satisfaction in life. If that’s not reason enough to stop and appreciate the setting sun, I don’t know what is.

For all you hopeless romantics out there like myself, the real  reason why we glorify these instances of beauty is because they are simply that… idealized romance. Sundown seems to embody the sheer power of an utterly romantic point in time. Just like love at first sight, it takes your breath away, leaves you speechless and if only for a moment, slows down time. In that instant, you feel the love and gratitude for Mother Nature exude from every inch of your body. A sunset possesses the promise of a new day. With the sun’s last rays peeking out from the horizon comes the realization that tomorrow holds endless possibilities. You know it won’t last, but you savor every last bit of that fleeting beauty.

Recently I’ve come to realize that I collect sunsets. Whether it’s walking to my car at the end of the workday or strolling the sands of an exotic beach, without even noticing it, I’ve managed to use a camera lens to take these evenings home with me. This collection of  cotton candy clouds and radiating hues represents some of the most beautiful moments and most wonderful memories in my life. These snapshots have become sacred treasures in my heart.

Enjoy the beauty of a sunset and enjoy nature’s farewell kiss for the night.

Collecting sunsets is an amazing way to boost happiness. Every time I see a beautiful sunset, I say thanks. Thanks for the pink clouds, thanks the cracks in the sky, thanks to the colors. I definitely believe those studies about long-lasting satisfaction.

P.S. Love your writing styles. <3

This is an amazing post – loved seeing Stowe up on your list. Such a wonderful, beautiful idea. I’m inspired! Last night here in MA we had a bright pink/baby blue sunset (cotton candy colors!) and today is the most beautiful day xo

This is a great post! I feel the same. In 2013 I did a 365 project with one picture of the sky everyday of the year and the things I got to see were awesome. :)

This is the perfect example of why I come back to the Free People blog again and again — beautiful, simple, raw, authentic inspiration that is completely achievable in my own life — once I have the idea and the encouragement to go out there and do it =)

I love your photos and I definitely love your blog about it! The very first time I saw your blog I was enchanted and read every single word and mesmerized and every picture you have. I never even thought of the reason why I love sunsets, and I felt like you just read my mind when I saw your blog. Sunset is purely romantic and amazing. Also, It is so fascinating to se how beautiful Mother nature is. Whenever I get so stress with life’s problems, sunset gives me hope that there is hope that the sun will rise again. Thanks for this lovely pictures and awesome blog. Looking forward to hear more from you.
