FP Me Stylist of the Week: Mskeeks

A picture says 1,000 words.

So much is captured, and so much can exist within one photo. This week’s stylist, Kiki, creates photographs that have an inspiring personality; seemingly on a journey that never quite ends, hopping from one place to the next. She seeks out locations that I dream of one day seeing for myself, so getting to know more behind the soul in those photos only seemed fitting. Take a step into her world below, and be inspired by Mskeeks.

Where are you from? How has this shaped the person that you are today?

I grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, forty miles outside of Boston. My parents were the first generation of my family to arrive in this country, and as a result, I was very culturally segregated when growing up. This upbringing cultivated my desires for worldly experiences, so as soon as I was old enough, I bought a one way ticket to Los Angeles and never looked back.

Where do you currently call home? Any hidden gems in your city that you can share with us?

At the moment, home is in downtown Los Angeles with my other half and our three little dogs. The center of the city can get overwhelming at times, so I embrace all opportunities for solitude. One of my favorite and frequently visited escapes is a trail in the Sierra Madre Mountains called Sturtevant Falls. It’s a short two mile hike along a creek filled with cascading waterfalls and rustic cabins. A definite rare gem in the city.

How do you typically spend your days?

I’m very blessed to be able to work from home; every day is a new creative adventure waiting to be made. My day usually begins before the sun rises. I love these rare quiet moments of stillness right before the city wakes up. It’s also the perfect time to gather my thoughts and set my intentions for the day. Then I get ready and go for a walk with the dogs, usually grabbing coffee and picking up fresh flowers along the way. I spend a majority of the morning tackling house chores before diving into a multitude of projects, working until my heart grows tired. Evenings are spent indulging on the finer things in life like sheepskin rugs, scented candles, and irreplaceable loved ones.

When it comes to dressing, are there any elements that are consistent in your day-to-day personal style, or do you tend to be a chameleon when outfitting?

I was a tomboy up until I was nineteen and didn’t own a dress until I was nearly twenty. Even though I tend to be a chameleon when outfitting, my personal style is usually a reflection of these two merged worlds.

What inspired you to start your blog?

Travel is the biggest inspiration for everything I do. I originally just wanted a space to store my memories and share my adventures with friends and family other than Facebook. Now I mostly share tidbits of my travels through my Instagram and FP Me.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be and why?

If I could live anywhere in the world I would live in the valleys of Yosemite. I’ve always wanted to live off the grid, and I couldn’t think of a more magical place to wake up to everyday.

What leaves you feeling the most inspired?

Pitching a tent and sleeping under the stars leaves me feeling the most inspired. Being outdoors and feeling connected with Mother Earth always has a way of replenishing my creativity. When nature is too far away, rearranging the apartment also does the trick. ;)

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

What does being “free” mean to you?

Being free means loving yourself first. It’s nourishing your soul, accepting your flaws, and embracing your talents.

I love her quote “Being free means loving yourself first. It’s nourishing your soul, accepting your flaws, and embracing your talents.” A lot of people including myself find it challenging to accept our own flaws.
