New Music To Love

This week has been a cold reminder that despite how hard we wish for spring, winter isn’t ready to say goodbye just yet. With freezing temperatures across much of the country, it’s the type of weather makes you want to cozy up indoors with a soft blanket and hot cup of something. Luckily we have some great new tunes to keep us company and get us excited about the warmer months ahead – and festival season (who else is counting down the days to SXSW?)! Father John Misty, I Love You Honeybear

I Love You, Honeybear is the latest release from Joshua Tillman, AKA Father John Misty, and it’s a beauty. There’s a (sometimes brutal) honesty to his lyrics, that is often masked by the cheerful joy of the music itself – perfectly suited for sunny, windows-down drives and lazy afternoons.

The Amazing, Picture You

This Swedish band first crossed my radar when Amy wrote about them a little while back, and their gorgeous, melodic tunes swept me away. To be totally honest, though, I forgot about them, until their new song “Picture You” found my ears through the airwaves and had me hooked all over again. Put this on when you’re chilling at home, reading, writing, crafting, and let it transport you to a place of pure serenity.

Lower Dens, To Die In LA

To Die in LA is the first single from the forthcoming EP, Escape From Evil, by Lower Dens. It’s an interesting clash of melancholic and uplifting, in that you can’t help but turn it up loud and bob your head. The sound is also reminiscent of the ’80s – but in a good way. Pop it on when you’re getting ready to go out at night.

Waxahatchee, Under a Rock

A friend recently recommended Waxahatchee, and when I found out that singer/songwriter Katie Crutchfield is based in Philadelphia I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of her sooner. Her sound reminds me of some of the kickass female rockers of the ’90s. I can’t wait to hear more from her! I’ve found this song to be a great addition to my running mix.

Panda Bear, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper

I’m always a fan of anything Noah Lennox does, whether in his solo career as Panda Bear or with Animal Collective. The way he mixes vocals with various beats and sounds is so unique and unlike anything I’ve heard – it’s almost otherworldly. I love listening to this while doing yoga, with candles burning and incense lit, and the sun setting outside my open windows.
