Casual /kazh-oo-uh l/ (a.) happening by chance; fortuitous; without definite or serious intention; careless or offhand; passing…these are just some of the definitions thrown out there by the dictionary. Because of this week’s Casual Monday trend, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means. It can be argued that casual is the essence of good style. Even when you’re dressed up, having an air of ease about you is what makes a look ring true. It signifies a sort of congruence with soul; what is being carried on the outside is a true reflection of the inner being. But casual can also mean no bells or whistles. It can be about easy fabrics and simplistic patterns such as stripes and plaid.
To get a deeper look into the art of being casual, I turned to FP Me babe, Love You Duh, otherwise known as Kris. We spent a day together, hopping from coffee shops, to record stores, to cozy lofts. She styled some of Free People’s latest pieces and showed off what casual is to her. The end result? A dream shoot of the perfectly draped fabrics, slouchy pockets, easy denim, and the perfect accessory: a warm cup of tea. How do you stay casual?
