This post comes from our blog intern, Aubrie!
The sun has finally decided to come out to play, which means it’s time to explore. At the same moment that fields turn from dry brush terrain to blooming wildflower meadows, we can look down to see our shoe choices shift to remain grounded with the changing season.
Slowly but surely, we shed the warm woolen socks and those ankles and toes start to make their appearance. Oh how rejuvenating it feels when long leggings become cropped pants, and tall all-weather boots become short little cut-out booties. In my opinion spring is the best season to play up your footwear because there are so many options! Boots remain a go-to when paired with new flowing skirts and gauzy dresses, but also sporty sneakers and comfy sandals climb out from the depths of our closets.
With the dawn of the vernal equinox, we told five FP Me girls to “pick your staple shoe and style it… #FPYourWay.” These lovely souls showed us how their favorite soles allow them to discover the beauty of spring in this season’s coolest kicks and casual wardrobe essentials.

How does the Arizona Birkenstock translate into your style?
Growing up, my mom always wore Birkenstocks. Whether it was picking us up from school or slipping them on before building cardboard forts for us to adventure through in the backyard, they were a staple in her wardrobe. She had black tri-buckle, tan paisley prints, and closed-toe styles she would pair with her jean short overalls all year long, a perk of Riverside winter days only reaching averages of 70 degrees. Now, I finally understand her love for the sole-hugging beauties! Birks are the next best thing to being barefoot, which is what I try to get away with most of the time. Living in San Diego, my Birkenstocks slide on first thing in the morning for my 8 AM classes, travel through the huge UCSD campus to the SIO shuttle, down to the La Jolla Shores beach, slip off for a quick dip in the ocean, then slide back on as I rush back for lunch at the farmer’s market with my boyfriend. As far as style goes, I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
What do you love about spring?
You would think after living in a new city for a few years that you would grow used to its beauty. But living in La Jolla is a different story. My Canon AE-1 and $2 fish tacos from Oscar’s in tow, if I could choose to spend the rest of my days in only one place, it would have to be here. As a little girl I always loved being near the ocean, and now, after five years of living here, I still find myself in disbelief that this is my home. Spring in particular is one of my favorite times in La Jolla. The water warms and the south swell picks up. The days are longer and sunnier and the tourists haven’t yet taken their summer vacations, leaving the beach uncrowded and feeling like a secret space. The birds of paradise bloom and my wardrobe gradually shifts to one-pieces and untamed, sun-kissed locks. This spring marks a great new adventure for me, in a few short days I will be graduating from the International Studies and Business program at The University of California San Diego and not long from now my lease here will end. This means a whole new world of possibilities, travel, and new opportunities to embrace my creativity.

How the Rilian Brogue translate into your style?
What I love about the Rilian Brogues is how sophisticated yet versatile they can be. My personal style often changes from day to day. Whether I am going for an edgy, girly, or layered comfort look, I can (literally) slip them on for a perfect modern touch. The washed leather effect compliments just about everything, making it easy for me to put together new, effortless outfits and looks.
What do you love about spring?
Living in Utah makes spring my favorite season of the year. I love seeing blooms suddenly appear at every angle, and the sun pouring over everything with its most perfect rays. There is nothing like feeling a warm breeze run through your hair after a chilly winter. It’s as if everything is reborn!

How does the Braeburn Ankle Boot translate into your style?
I can wear these booties with so many outfits and the cut-out detail makes them wearable throughout spring and summer. The brown color also compliments denim perfectly – which is how I plan on wearing them most!
What do you love about spring?
What I love most about spring is the smell of flowers and the later sunsets. Putting my winter coat away is also the best feeling! Time for lighter layers and cute summer shoes.

How does the Belmont Leather Clog translate into your style?
These shoes translate into my style quite effortlessly. I wear a lot of basics: skinny jeans and layering tops so these clogs are a great way to add a little something extra to my outfits. I especially love the color, it adds a little pop of hue.
What do you love about spring?
I love that spring reminds me of fresh starts, the flowers bloom and green sprouts where there was nothing before. It’s so beautiful.

How does the Suede Classic Sneaker translate into your style?
Kicks are better than heels any day. I’m a total tom boy/fashionista. It’s an interesting juxtaposition, but I never want my style to interfere with my crazy lifestyle. I need fashion that works with me and works the runway. I wear a lot of hats as a student, blogger, stylist, athlete, and entrepreneur.
What do you love about spring?
Spring is a new beginning, a new lifestyle. The fresh weather is the best way to jump start outdoor activities, new recipes, and rejuvenation. There’s something about the sunshine that is inspiring. It’s time to make change, rip off the sweater, and go out and do something big. Make a difference and change the world.

+How will you style spring shoes your way this season?
It would be really awesome if you guys could feature more vegan shoes and other accessories for those of us who don’t believe someone should lose their life so our shoes can be on trend each season.
Those Braeburn boots and Pumas are badass.
I agree with Jessica! I think that using more vegan clothing is really important for our environment and for us.
So sweet – I’m on the hunt for a stylish, comfortable pair to bring with me to Portugal this summer!
Warm Regards,
Alexandra
