A blue beach cottage sits firmly atop the gorgeous La Jolla cliffs as the waves crash against the shore below.
Out walks Free People swim model, Rocky Barnes, barefoot and beaming. The California native has energy so electric you can almost touch it. She has graciously opened up her home for us to shoot the new swim collection on the beach below, only steps away from her front door. After the initial hugs and hellos, she takes us on a tour of her beautiful abode, which she and her husband just recently finished renovating. It’s peaceful. Bright. Natural. Everything you would expect from a California beach house.
Huge windows and sliding glass doors open up to the patio on one side and the ocean on the other, the beach air dances through the house in the cross breeze. Bright green plants are perfectly placed around the house and the color pops brilliantly against the white walls. Seashells, sand dollars, and sea glass are a regular occurrence on tables and shelves. Rocky collects them from all over the world and brings them back home to add to her ever-growing and gorgeous shell collection. (She even had all of us searching for shells and sea glass on the beach while we were shooting!) I notice stunning Moroccan rugs, vintage maps on the wall, and wellness cookbooks in the kitchen. A surfboard leans nonchalantly against the wall next to the front door. A bed of succulents hang on the wall on the large open patio, overlooking a fire pit, where she and her friends frequently hang. This home is what relaxed California living is all about — comfort and ease. Read on to discover more of Rocky’s inspiring beach dwelling:
As we were packing up to leave, the most breath-taking sunset I have ever seen, gave us a jaw-dropping and heart-stopping show. Thank you Anthony, our photographer on the shoot, for this next set of photos. Wowza.
Thank you, Rocky, for welcoming us into your beautiful home!
+ How do you add beach culture to your home? We’d love to know!
