Cammy Morrell, creator of the fashion and lifestyle blog Last of the Moheak, calls herself a “California Beach Bum Blogger.”
The honesty and humor in her description makes me smile. A California beach blogger she is, but a bum she most certainly is not. This driven beauty has been blogging for over three years and focuses her attention on the Golden State’s easy going lifestyle. She started Last of the Moheak in high school and loved it so much she found herself blogging before and after classes. “I have always enjoyed blogging; I love the feeling I get after posting. I love looking back and seeing how much I have changed.” Her photos have a dreamy, West Coast vibe, making her blog a frequent stop for California fashionistas. She also keeps her readers up to date with the latest in music with playlists for the beach, working out, or chilling out under a palm tree.
You can catch Cammy co-hosting our pre-Coachella FP Loves Music event at Free People Topanga on Wednesday, April 8, at 6pm. She is inspired by “all-things music and California” so she is just the gal to see for all of your festival looks! Where are you originally from?
Born and raised in Los Angeles California.
What is your favorite thing to do in LA?
Hang on the beach or eat. LA has some of the best urban and rustic places to grub at.
When did you first get into blogging?
Three and a half years ago.
What is your favorite thing about Last of the Moheak?
That it’s my own. And it’s really fun to watch yourself change over time. Blogging is like a style diary!
What is the first website you open up in the morning?
Instagram and Twitter.
How would you describe your style?
It’s become very beachy and laid-back. And I like bold floral prints, embroidery, and neutrals.
If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
I would totally have dinner with Ansel Elgort. That half smile he does… I have this fantasy he is a really genuine guy who lives in a little studio apartment in NY and still flies economy class when traveling. Or opens the door for old ladies. Plus he’s a DJ so he probably has really good taste in music. I am mad crushing on him!
What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received and from whom did you receive it?
Recently I got home from work at 2am and I was so tired in every part of my body. I couldn’t fathom how hard my dad works and how he works so much more than me. So I left him a note on the kitchen island asking him how he did it and how grateful I was for his hard work. He responded in pencil the next morning to “work hard until you hit the top and then be the boss and it won’t feel like work because you’ll enjoy being at the top.” I will remember that forever.
Do you have a morning routine?
After showering I walk to my mom’s room and do my makeup next to her while we catch up on our day. Something I will miss deeply when I move out. She’s gives me advice and inspires me to work hard. Moms are the best because they care about you more than anyone else.
Do you have any tips for great FP Me photos?
Give your photos a cool filter and post dramatic candid photos! And post lots of them!
If you could swap wardrobes with anyone, who would it be?
Cody Simpson. I would take all his wide brimmed hats and cool denim pieces.
What is your go-to outfit?
Right now it’s the Free People Destroyed Skinny Jeans in Tupelo Blue, my tan leather espadrilles, and any tee that’s comfy.
What advice would you give aspiring bloggers?
Be different and don’t mirror other bloggers. There are so many bloggers in the world; find something that will make you stand out from the rest. Be yourself!
Being free means…
… feeling the most you.
