Reflecting On Another Year Gone By

It’s my birthday on Wednesday and, once again, I can’t help but feel reflective.

Has that ever happened to you? Whether it’s a new year, embarking on a new age, or maybe it’s a life event that has made you look back and ponder… think, reflect. Well, tomorrow I’m turning another year older and have been doing a whole ‘lotta reflecting. Not your typical, “I’m another year older, woe is me, I’m soooo old,” kind of thinking. (Though those thoughts sometimes do try to sneak into my mind.) Rather, my recent reflection has been about feeling grateful and appreciative of this life I’ve been able to live thus far. I’m grateful for the ups, the downs, and the ins and outs. I’m grateful for the feeling of being loved and yet also the harsh feeling of bitter loneliness. I’m grateful for my health, even when it may waver. I’m grateful to know what comfortable feels like, but also the unnerving feeling of anxiety and stress. My face may be decorated with more wrinkles, but it’s only because I’ve expressed a life’s worth of emotion. My sun-kissed freckles may now be dark sun spots, but it’s only because I’ve lived a life outside, exploring this vast world.

This year, it’s not about what I haven’t done yet, it’s about what I have already experienced… the life/lives I’ve been lucky to live. To feel with your heart, to pour out hope, to give to others, to work hard, to take a risk, to live…  for that I am grateful this birthday. For that, I am celebrating.

I really reflect on how hectic of a year it was. 2015 had its ups and downs, but I turned 17 last year and this is the year of adulthood when it’s December!

Gratitude is power! Check out my blog post about gratitude journaling over at http://www.modlancer.com/lifestyle/2015/3/14/why-you-should-keep-a-gratitude-journal — and happy early birthday lady!

I need to adopt this attitude. My birthday is in May and every May I sink into a month long depression. I hate feeling old, but there is no reason to let it ruin a whole month. Looking back at the wonders of a year though… that’s a blessing.

Happy Birthday!

Don’t worry I am going on to my final year in University and am starting to look back at accomplishments as well lol. I think that this attitude is so difficult for some people, but being grateful for the blessings in your life is what keeps us grounded and from worrying too much about the fear of the future.

Again have a good one!
Cheers,

Anne

Wednesday is my birthday, too. I will be 32, and it’s not the age im focusing on. Today I went on a long bike ride alone in a beautiful oark. I needed that reflection time. Thanks for a great post birthday twin….I’ll be thinking about it all day tomorrow!

Yesterday was my birthday too.
I turned 22.
As I climbed into bed at the end of the day, I felt an overwhelming power of release.
I was able to let go of the trials that I faced throughout the previous year.
I’m now a year older, and feel in a position where I am in charge of what happens next.
It’s exciting and really, being content with who you are and what you have, is the best birthday present anyone could ask for.
