Show Your Love With Breakfast In Bed

It’s something so simple, yet such a treat. Breakfast in bed can’t be beat.My mum is one to be celebrated. She’s got a heart the size of the moon, and a southern charm that lights up any room. She can rock a pair of bellbottoms better then anyone I know, and is one of my biggest inspirations. For us, we love the little details that make this life so sweet. Breakfast in bed is one of those things, and since forever, has kind of been our thing.

We live by a set of unwritten rules in our family.

Rule #1:  There’s no better way to say “I love you” than with some warm buttermilk biscuits and fresh preserves.

Add crisp white sheets, morning light, and a few little details… you’ve got yourself a recipe for the best mother’s day present in the world.

Here’s some tips I’ve gathered over the many, many years of brunchin’ in bed:

Serve: A basic serving tray would work, but my mind always wants to do something unique and different. It’s all about choosing something stable. I used an old suitcase with travel stickers glued to it, I wanted mom to feel like she was at a European hotel. The structure of it is secure, so I knew nothing would tip and spill onto the bed. I added some sprigs of greens anywhere I could get them, to make the ambiance natural and beautiful.

Eat: Make your mom’s favorite breakfast food, it doesn’t have to be gourmet or over the top. Biscuits and fresh preserves are simple but nostalgic to my momma and I. To make it feel special, along with the preserves and the biscuit, I put some honey and more strawberries on the side in mason jars so she had access to more.

Sip: My mom loves coffee, so I set up a little coffee bar on the side table next to the bed so she could sip without burning. I picked a few lilac branches from outside and wrote a cute note to make the area feel as special as the other. For the suitcase “serving tray”, I cut up some fresh oranges and infused them in water with a few basil leaves for something refreshing and hydrating.

Entertain: It’s all about relaxation. Placing old photos to flip through, the newspaper, or any interesting read is great to give mom something to do as she munches. I chose an old Pittsburgh Press article that I found from when man first went to the moon!

Love: All in all, it’s about the love. Be there to laugh and tell memories… or if your anything like me, steal a biscuit for yourself. Thank your mom for everything she does, as I know how thankful I am!
