Create a Simple Floral Backdrop to Transform Your Wedding

There’s one important thing that every wedding should have…

A decorative backdrop! They’re festive, fun, and great to use as a backdrop for your ceremony or as part of your photobooth. The thing about backdrops that always surprises me is that, although they may look grand in scale and difficult to put together, it’s actually really simple to create one. Luckily, one of our favorite FP Me girls, Mel Denisse, has some experience when it comes to creating the perfect wedding backdrop, so we enlisted her help on this DIY. She set one up at her own wedding when she tied the knot just a few months ago, and today she’s recreating it for us using pretty florals. Get inspired by her wedding below, and learn how to make a DIY floral backdrop of your own:

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Materials:

Any kind of scissors

Wire cutter (optional for tough stems)

String

Branch

Illusion cord

Floral tape

Florals of your choice

Step 2: Tie Your String

Tie string on each end of the branch and wrap around for thickness. This step gives you a visual of how much space you’ll have for your florals.

Step 3: Tie Illusion Cord

Cut a good amount of the illusion cord and tie a double knot on the branch (as many as needed depending on how long your branch is) leave some of the cord for tying the stems.

Note: You can also do it the other way around by tying a knot on the stem first and then tying it to the branch. Some find this route a little easier.

Step 4: Choose Florals

The fun part! Here I have a myriad of choices photographed but I kept it simple and used the same greens for each row except the middle. You have full freedom to explore and see what works for you.

Step 5: Taping Stems

Once you’ve gathered the greens you’d like to use, the floral tape is a miracle worker. Take a little bit and use it to wrap one stem to another making each row as long as desired. I try to look for spots with a lot going on to hide the tape even though it’s already hard to spot. At the end, you can do the same thing in adding roses or any pop of color you’d like.

Hi,
Just wondering how you kept the plant part fresh? Did you make this the day before your wedding or on the day?
