Stop And Smell The Roses

A saying I’ve heard, over and over again. “Stop and smell the roses.” A combination of words that have made their mark in our vocabularies, used to encourage… advise… inspire.

Quotes have that power to make us open our eyes a little wider, and see a little brighter. They make us rethink the unthinkable, turning our heads towards a new direction, helping us to better understand the tangles in a woven world. For the past two years, I’ve been on a long hunt for the quotes that make me feel something, the ones that switch on a little button in my brain and help me change my perspective. I’ve done these Monday inspiration posts for quite some time now as a part of my job, putting out words of encouragement in hopes of making your day — or week — a little bit brighter.

Along the way, I’ve learned that any advice needs to be taken with a grain of salt.  I turn to my friends and family when I’m in a bind, and I think (more times than not), I’m looking for them to give me black and white answers. An answer to make me go, “that’s it!” Sometimes I just want my problems to be solved for me, but that wish never really comes true, and to be honest, I’m kind of glad it doesn’t. Where’s the growth in that? If everything is handed to me, there’s no room for learning.

I wanted to share this classic quote today as a reminder that for all the times we’re given advice, or for any quote that resonates within us, there’s always a way to view it from a different perspective. As long as it’s giving a little push in the right direction, the definition is all up to you.

“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken” – I think this is one big truth. The best thing we can do is not to care about what everyone else does. We must find our inner self and remain truth to it, because we’re all unique human beings and no one can replace us.
That is my inspiration :)

I keep coming back to Robert Frost “Two Roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I took the one less travelled by and it has made all the difference….”

“Be Brave” has been swirling and punctuating my thoughts lately, especially when I am noticing I’m being resistant to even the tiniest things, like putting in a small brushstroke in one of my paintings, or saying “hi” to someone or going all crazy at dance class.
