I don’t know about you guys but when it’s hot out, I start to lose my ability to eat a lot of things.
I find myself only wanting food that is cold and refreshing – crisp veggies, and most of all, fruit. Living in Texas has introduced me to a snack that most likely is not new to many of you, but it was new to me: Spicy fruit. The state’s proximity to Mexico has a huge influence on the cuisine here, and this is one thing we have that culture to thank for. It’s so simple, so delicious, and so refreshing. I love bringing it along on outdoor adventures because it’s also very hydrating! Read on to learn how to whip up this quick summer snack.
What you need:
1 pineapple, cut into cubes
1 small watermelon, or half a large watermelon, cut into cubes
2 limes
Cayenne pepper
*This also tastes delicious with other fruits like mango and papaya, and cucumber too!
Instructions:
Cut the fruit into small cubes and place in a bowl or container. Squeeze the juice from the two limes evenly over the fruit and sprinkle with cayenne pepper. If you like a lot of spice, use generously, if not, only use a little bit. Toss all ingredients and enjoy!

Hell yeah I wanna make this! It’s 90 freaking degrees. Cucumber, watermelon, pineapple, and chopped basil make a wonderful salad too, if you can’t take spice.

Julia, go to HEB & get trechas. (its in the fruit section) that’s the real deal.
Fruit is my favorite summer snack – esp. frozen and in a smoothie! Not sure about the spicy factor – but sure am curious!

Have you tried Sriracha with mangoes? It’s actually a delicious Vietnamese staple!
If you’re not using Tajin, you aren’t doing it right.
Is it ok to substitute lime for lemon? I’m allergic to lime but I can have lemon.
Amazing article!
