The Ultimate Beach Waves Spray You Haven’t Tried Yet

Now that summer is just around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit one of our favorite DIY’s here on the blog, but refreshed for 2015.

Beach waves, mermaid locks, surf hair… whatever you want to call it, there’s hundreds of DIYS out there that will help you achieve the look, but I wanted to share one that’s a little different from any that we’ve done here on the blog. All you need are a few simple ingredients, and you’re on your way to getting the ultimate summer hairstyle!

What you need:

1 cup hot water ( I like to add 1/2 cup hot water, and then 1/2 cup chamomile tea. The chamomile will naturally lighten your hair! )

1 teaspoon Himalayan salt

1 teaspoon Hawaiin red salt

2 teaspoons sea salt

1 teaspoon aloe vera gel (best if straight from the plant!)

1/2 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 tsp argan oil (proven to help grow hair faster!)

A few drops vanilla essential oil

Add everything to a spray bottle and shake to combine.

To use, spray onto damp hair and lightly scrunch to form the waves. Try drying with a diffuser for added volume, or spray in your hair while at the beach to help lighten it!

My hair is extremely thin and fine like a toddler’s and very flat. I adapted this for a smaller bottle and my own hair needs. I love sea salt sprays! For girls with hair like me, spray on damp hair, scrunch, let dry almost completely, do french braid pigtails to sleep in and in la mañana unleash your mermaid locks!

when making this for beach waves, would using henna instead of the chamomile mixed with the water give you red highlights instead of lightening you hair?
Would mixing both in give a mixture of highlights?

Totally using this once I use up the sea salt spray I’m using now. I’ve been looking for one I could make myself and can’t wait to make this one!

Shelley… I would NOT put henna in with a spray. It will seriously dye anything the spray droplets touch including your skin, clothes, other people, etc! I would use a dark red tea instead of chamomile to bring more red highlites in your hair. Henna is extremely messy and difficult to use and I can just see using it in a sea salt spray like this would be a disaster! (I have used henna for decorating purposes and for also dying my hair, so I have LOTS of experience with it!)

Spritz it on, load the MTB on the back of the convertible, and drive like you can’t wait to get there!
My long red locks are perfectly dreaded in long irish dreads by the time I hit the trailhead !

Hey,

You should add a bit of raw sugar to the recipe because salt tenda to dry out your hair with repeated use. Sugar helps boosts volume big time.

i just made it and iam so curious. the only problem is that my spray bottle suddenly doesnt work. do you have same problem? could it be because of oils content?
