Monday Inspiration: The More You Do It, The More You’ll Know It

With practice comes perfection — a lesson in mastery, Photoshop, and always striving to learn as much as possible.

Sometimes it’s the hardest of challenges that empower us to grow and learn.

I came across this quote the other day, and it got me thinking about the first time I ever opened up photoshop. I wasn’t enrolled in a class, or had anyone else guiding me. So well do I remember the overwhelming feeling I got when I took my first dive into learning the program. If someone could have taken a snapshot, it would have been 17 year old me, in my room, staring at my computer with jaw dropped and eyes peeled. I had NO idea what I was doing. At that stage, figuring out how to even open up an image file to edit was foreign business. So many times I opened up that program, but would immediately close it because of the frustration I felt over not knowing what to do next. I knew what I wanted my pictures to look like, but didn’t have the slightest inclination on where to start.

“The more you do it, the more you’ll know it.”

So I practiced, everyday, until I started to feel comfortable. I’d learn something new every time I opened up the program. No way was it fun in the beginning, but eventually I got there. Flash forward to now, and the high school hobby I picked up is now in my job description. Didn’t plan that, but life has a funny way of working out the way it’s supposed to.

This summer one of the items on my bucket list is to learn something new… pick up a new hobby. I know for a fact that overwhelming feeling is going to find it’s way back around, but instead of shying away, it’s more important to use it as a tool. Let it empower, and drive the mind down a path of curiosity. The more you do it, the more you’ll know it, and the more the mind will be full with new knowledge.

This is so inspiring! I currently changed my major to Arts & Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas. I had never used Photoshop before I started my new classes. I know exactly how this feels. Great advice.

Learning a new language is also very intimidating when it comes to practice using it in a conversation but the more you practice your tongue just begins to let the words flow naturally:)

I like learning new things all the time, from trying new foods to traveling to places I never thought I’d go to!

This is great! I was this way with art and especially painting. Nowadays I’m trying to get into photography and some coding (which I will have to do for my major anyway). It’s really interesting to see where I’ve come from, not knowing anything about the subject back in the day and now slowly but steadily increasing my knowledge and skill.

I need to work on my current hobbies and not take on another one :) But I do love the idea of learning new things!

Very true words! I’m definitely one of those people who becomes discouraged if I don’t immediately figure something out or to it well off the bat. I love the image at the top of this post — it’s a great reminder and looks beautiful. The perfect thing to have hanging in your home somewhere ^_^

I wonder if someone on the FP team could make a desktop wallpaper with this quote? It’s a great mantra for learning new things at work and I really work well with constant reinforcement. I tried to make one, but it’s not very pretty!

I love the gif, just saying that first.

And I think this summer is mainly about improvement. I want to be a better artist and writer. They both mean the universe to me and it’s a little intimidating when you look at the blank page then the image you are trying to replicate…but I won’t give up. I shall practice more.
