Get transported to Alabama’s first ever Sloss Music and Arts Festival – A weekend full of inspiring fashion, and an amazing line-up of performers.
This post comes from our Regional Social Media Manager, Dawn!
The inaugural Sloss Music and Arts Festival was recently held at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama. This music and lifestyle festival featured acts including The Avett Brothers, First Aid Kit, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and Zella Day to name just a few, but what makes this festival so unique is the actual venue. Sloss Furnaces, which produced iron through 1970, dates back to the late 1800’s when Birmingham was just becoming a city. Although none of the original furnace is left, the oldest building on the premises, which also houses the Shed Stage, dates back to 1902. Sloss is currently the only twentieth century blast furnace in the US being preserved and interpreted as a historic industrial site and received the National Historic Landmark designation in 1981. Sloss reopened to the public in 1983 and now hosts concerts, festivals, and conferences, as well as metal arts workshops and exhibitions. This year’s festival included a live iron pouring demonstration where attendees could create their own one-of-a kind metal art piece and then watch it be made by a team of local iron-pourers… so cool. Come along with me as I share my experience through photos of this year’s event!

THANK YOU for shedding a positive light on Birmingham. I don’t live in AL anymore, but I’m so, so happy to see them growing instead of people just assuming it’s a drug ridden crime haven. There is so much to do there!
