Aloha, my name is Ashley Dinneen Baxter. When I wake up every morning, I ask myself, “I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?!” said best by Benjamin Hoff in one of my favorite books, The Tao of Pooh.

Growing up on Maui is like growing up in a huge amusement park, but better! The ride of a lifetime awaits you at pretty much every turn, and the best part? No lines, and no money (in most cases)! Maui has motivated and inspired me to be the best version of myself, and to live every day to the fullest. I find myself wishing for more hours in the day in which to fill all my activities, including getting 8 hours of sleep (which never happens, but I’m working on it). With practice makes perfect!

Living in a “water woman’s” paradise, you not only have the opportunity, but privilege to experience so many sports in prime conditions. I feel lucky and thankful every day of my life, for living in a place that provides me with so many amazing challenges. I love learning new things! I love not understanding how something works, and then looking back one day like, “bahhahaha, I can’t believe I ever thought this was hard!”.

In Hawaii, I am surrounded by so many individuals who strive to be their best, and excel at what they love. Most people care more about living a creative lifestyle than making money. I’ve never let money get in my way of doing something I want. There is always a way — you just have to ask yourself how badly you want it. If you want it badly enough, you’ll do anything and everything to get it.

The job of a lifetime literally fell into my lap about 2 years ago, thanks to my good friends Travis and Chelsea Chamberlain. I was bestowed the privilege of showcasing the more intimate and “local” side of Maui via the Discovery Land Co. What I appreciate and love most about my work is that I can be myself, starting every morning in the ocean — paddling, swimming, doing beach workouts. Doing what I would on a normal day, but with a little more structure and organization. What more could I ask for?!!

The most important lesson I’ve learned through my job and life is to play off your strengths, and take heed from those who possess different strengths. If we all look within and find OUR strengths, this world would be a happier place. When people live the life they love, they achieve big things. Why? Because they are happy! It’s not always the easiest path, but the best way to start is by taking one step forward. Ask yourself questions, try new things, challenge yourself! Remember to always look at the things that make you different. Imagine them in your head. Say “thank you” until you feel so good that you can’t help but smile! The things that make you unique are the things you should appreciate and love — who wants to be someone that already exists? That’s boring and already been done! Be new, be different, be YOU! HUGS, SMILES, and laughter ARE contagious, so do it as much as possible! Pay it Forward.

Much Love and Aloha,

Ash

I LOVE her hair. I wish I knew how people get their hair to be so long and natural. My hair stops at mid-back. Beautiful!

The journey gets hard sometimes & it was inspiring to read this & literally feel her positive energy (as cheesy as that sounds haha). Love reading about fellow Hawaii babes! Somehow Maui is the only island I’ve never been, but I’m definitely making it my mission to hop over there soon!
