Hostess With The Mostess: DIY Thanksgiving Invitation

We are exactly two weeks away from Thanksgiving. Let the planning begin.

This year, for the first time ever, I will be hosting Thanksgiving at my place. I’m feeling all the feelings. Thankful, terrified, excited, overwhelmed, underwhelmed…you know. I’m really trying to conquer this whole entertaining thing and make this Thanksgiving the best one yet (and hopefully begin a new tradition in my home, but let’s take baby steps first). I’ll be documenting my hostess journey, and bringing y’all along the way with ideas, tips, tricks and, possibly, a few learned lessons.

Fourteen days away means it’s time to get those invitations out! I’m always a believer that homemade is better, especially when it comes to pen and paper. Because my schedule is pretty tight, I decided to create a minimal, natural-looking invitation that was whipped up in no time.

What you need:
Black calligraphy pens
White cardstock
Twine
Feathers
A little love ☺

This is where you can get creative and test out that handwriting of yours. During this step, don’t get all caught up and upset if you aren’t making perfect strokes. It’s always so personal and sweet getting a card and, if your handwriting is squiggly and crooked, embrace it.

Once you choose which one you like best, grab your cardstock and get started. I chose more of a cursive font, but loved how simple the print was. During this step, write the text a little below halfway down, to save room for the finishing touch.

Next, get your party details inside of the card. I simply added the address and rsvp date so I would be able to plan accordingly. Once you finish that, your card is about to be sealed shut until opening. Pick out a feather. I chose a medium-sized one, and tied the base of it into a knot with twine.

You are finished, my friends. Grab a your envelope, a stamp, and get these on their way! Getting our invites out and guest lists secured will move us toward our next step in preparation for our Thanksgiving party. Make sure to keep an eye out for my next hostess post!

This is also the first year that I will be hosting thanksgiving at my place too. I have spent the last week or so scouring pinterest for the best recipes, and I am so excited I can hardly wait. I love the idea of making handmade invitations, and there is still time to send them out. I even already have all the materials on hand. : )
