Get The Romantic Look: City Rose Makeup Tutorial

Bloom like a City Rose — soft, romantic and perfectly dewy.

I have to make a public announcement: I don’t do girly things very well. Shocking, I know, for anyone who knows me (remember my hair confession last week?) Well, I have another one to add to the list: applying makeup. Don’t get it, can’t do it. Attempted many times, yes, but all with less than desirable outcomes. (Hello over-contouring.) I think I know what you might be saying. Great, another beauty tutorial by the tomboy who doesn’t brush her hair and cites moisturizer as a beauty regimen.

Well, that’s where our good friend and LA makeup artist Jenna Kristina comes in. I always find myself practically sitting on her shoulder at photo shoots, asking questions about technique and tools as she applies makeup on our models. “What’s that do? Where does that go? What is that? Do I need that? Who makes that? Which color is best? Is this annoying?” The inquisitive interrogation goes on…poor Jenna.

As much as I try to give her space, I just can’t stay away. This rang especially true on our last photo shoot for City Rose. This romantic and dewyy look is so beautiful in its simplicity that I just had to know more…in detail. Jenna graciously provided us with a step by step tutorial, as well as her favorite products to get the look. Find it below.

1. Cover the face in facial oil like Marula Neroli infused oil (pictured above).

2. Apply a sheer illuminating fluid like Soleil Tan de Chanel (pictured above) to the higher points of the face, i.e. cheekbones, center of nose, upper lip and eyelid.

3. Apply a gold glitterery shadow (I like the Tom Ford Golden Mink Palette) to the same areas as the Chanel illuminating fluid. I also applied a good amount to the inner corner of the eye.

4. Apply eyeliner. I used Chanel Long Lasting Eyeliner in Sandal to the outer corners of the eyes. Keep it very close to the lash line and blend it out with a brush. Basically, you want a soft shadow so as to not see the liner.

5. Conceal under eye and any other spots to create evenness.

6. Dust bronzer on the outer edges of the face to warm the skin up.

7. Fill in brows. Keep it simple.

8. Apply a small amount of a brownish cream blush to the apples of the cheeks to give the skin a little bit of life. Finish with your favorite mascara.

9. If it is looking too monochromatic for your taste, pop the cheeks with a pinkish blush (I like Charlotte Tilbury blush in Ecstasy).
