A closer look at our latest styling story, Magic Hour.
I keep an old photo of Lauren Hutton from the 1970s in my desk drawer. I pull it out whenever I am short on style inspiration. In the photo, she is lounging barefoot on a simple chair, her knees pulled up to her chest. Though the photo is black and white, you can see that her skin is tan and freckled and she’s giving the camera a look of “come hang out with us already.” I imagine reggae is softly playing in the background. Her outfit is as effortless and cool as the gaze she is giving the lens. The strength of her look lives in the confidence of her famous gap-toothed grin. It is altogether a strong and feminine look, simple in mood but forever aspirational.
I bring this photo up because our new styling story, Magic Hour, immediately reminded me of it. The look is beautifully bohemian in all the right ways: eyelet, crochet, and summer sweaters are styled back to military neutrals and rugged accessories. Straw, shells, and tan accessories round out the look and add ease to the military structure. It’s the perfect balance of soft sensuality and forward ruggedness. The look is bold in its alluring simplicity, just like Ms. Hutton.
