5 Tips for Clean Pores

Keep your pores clean — here’s how!

A little bit of effort can go a long way, especially when it comes to those annoying pores on our beautiful faces. If you don’t think you have clogged pores, (ugh, the word clogged is terrible), go grab a magnifying mirror and take a good look at your nose. Are you convinced?

They will get dirty… again… but there are preventative ways to keep your pores cleaner, longer. Just a few easy tips, a couple times a week, and you are in the clear.

Take Off Makeup. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser. I’m talkin’ before bed, or as soon as you are done for the day and ready to chill out, makeup free. Makeup can lock oil and dirts in your skin, creating build up and clogged pores if not taken off. How important is your makeup routine before you leave the house? Pretty high on your list, right? Don’t forget!

Wash Before + After Workouts. Take makeup off before working out to avoid buildup. Wash your face after a workout, to clean the dirt and sweat off of your face. I always like to carry natural cleansing wipes in my bag for times like these.

Clean Those Sheets. Your bedding is full of nasty dirt and pore-clogging bacteria. Make sure to wash your sheets weekly, and keep your pillowcase as clean as possible. Those 8+ hours of snoozing should not be spent collecting dirt on your face.

Love For Lemons. The acidity in lemons is great for breaking down the dirt-filled oils on your face. Simply slice a lemon and lightly rub it on your face twice a week.

Hands Off. Our hands are full of dirt and oils. Don’t spread that love onto your face. By keeping your fingers away from your face, especially the “T-zone” (forehead, nose, chin), you’re already taking steps in the right direction.

These are all great tips. I like to steam my face once a week following it with the lemon treatment. Works like a charm. Thanks!

Please please do not put lemon juice on your skin! It’s photosensitive and can cause really bad reactions to the sun plus worsen hyperpigmintation.

My mother is a derm and I have been putting lemons on my face my entire life, as followed from her doing.

Question- do you rinse your face after rubbing with lemon, or do you leave it on to sink in/dry? Thanks!

I wash my face with baking soda every day, steam and a clay mask once or twice a week and drinking lots of rose petal and calendula tea- it’s wonderful for your skin! I buy the dried flowers at a health-food store and mix them together myself.

Be SUPER careful with the lemon and then going in the sun. Citrus fruits can give you crazy intense burns if skin is exposed to citrus juice and then out in the sun for a while. http://www.today.com/health/limeburn-citrus-sun-leads-nasty-rash-t38686

To help make my pores smaller and clean them out (i.e. get rid of my black heads) I use a mixture of baking soda, lemon and good old water. I use about a half cup of baking soda, 2-3 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice (if you want to use lemon essential oil you can too but only use a few drops since it is so concentrated!) and enough water to make the mixture into a paste. I typically cleanse my face with castile soap and then a layer of the paste to my whole face and let it sit on their for a few minutes before scrubbing it into my skin and then rinsing it off. It works fantastically!
