Life Hack: Clear Your Mind — At the Office

With effort, we can muddle through the fog of life’s difficulties and see things for what they are — beautiful.

Tomorrow. Monday. The start of a new work week. Ugh.

A typical weekend observation, for many of us. But why exert that negative energy? It doesn’t have to be that way. Start your work week on a good note. Focus on doing your job — the best you can — while making an effort to clear your mind. Here’s a workweek’s worth (say that three times), of simple things to do that can keep you feeling balanced and happy.

Day One: Clean Palette. What is your workspace like? The conditions? Your mind may be going a little stir crazy. Whether working at a desk job, at that cute coffee shop around the corner, etc., start each week with a clean slate. Wipe out the bad, pick up a bit and feel refreshed.

Day Two: Switch Up Your Buzz. Try new things —  always a fun way to keep an open mind. For example, if you are a hardcore coffee drinker, consider an energy-invoking alternative. I love warm green tea in the mornings, but have heard that kombucha can really get you stirring. Take today to make a change in your everyday routine, and see how you feel.

Day Three: Go Green. How are your plants looking? Any in your surroundings? If you do, water them today, and make sure they are all happy and thriving. If you don’t, take some time during your next lunch break and head over to the local botany shop. Grab a succulent and give it some nourishment. Taking on a new, somewhat lighthearted responsibility takes some of the pressure off and is sure to make you smile.

Day Four: Good Vibes. You are almost through the week  — congrats!! Today, pack up some essential oils and a crystal or two. Bring them to work, and give them a home. Deeply inhaling the smell of eucalyptus or lavender calms my nerves during stressful times, and keeping a crystal in my back pocket keeps the good vibes going.

Day Five: Release. Reflect on the work week. Note what was good, what needed improvement, and jot down three positive things about your job. This exercise is a good way to transition into the weekend on a happy note.
