Office Style: UK SPECIAL

A special edition of our Office Style series.. Introducing not one, but three of our UK Team members, flying the FP flag in London…

Lisa

@lisagoody

Your position at Free People… UK Marketing and PR Manager. I support brand awareness and growth for the UK market, so working with local press and bloggers, building the UK social channels and planning events and marketing campaigns.

How does your job influence your personal style? I’m constantly on the Free People website; pulling imagery for future emails, for the press or for our UK Instagram. So, I’m influenced by the variety and styling that gets added on to the site daily. Because of that, my style is ever-evolving and pretty eclectic!

What is your personal style? I’m a bohemian at heart, but styled in quite a modern, clean way. Living in a city like London, which celebrates fashion, gives me the confidence to play around with colour, print and texture. I run away to the beach at any given opportunity, so summer fashion is my favourite — I like oversized fits and short hemlines.

Go-to fashion rule or styling trick? I used to shy away from anything with an open back, and just admire from afar, but now I layer with a fun strappy back bralet and make it part of the outfit. I have multiple colours of this style, and it’s also super comfy!

Favorite part about your job? Being able to work with a brand that I truly believe in, and would wear every day of my life, is pretty much a fashion PR’s dream. So I’m very lucky! I also love to travel, so having the opportunity to visit our Philadelphia and New York offices every few months is always fun.

Most challenging part of your job? Because we’re still a small set-up here in the UK, my direct team are all in America. As well as the -5 hour time different, I’m often not able to brainstorm or plan projects face-to-face, which can prove tricky at times.

Tali

@wildbindi +@freepeopleuk

Your position at Free People… I am Senior Stylist and Social Media Specialist for the King’s Road boutique in London.

How does your job influence your personal style? I can’t help but draw inspiration from all the amazing girls with whom I work. They all come from different parts of the world and have their own unique eye for fashion. And I love tracking the new arrivals and current concepts, wondering how I can work them into my wardrobe.

What is your personal style? Growing up in Australia I would say I’ve adopted a pretty relaxed, colourful wardrobe. I’ve spent many a summer barefoot in a lacey crop and a floral wrap skirt. Although, living in London has definitely switched things up… I’ve slowly grown to adore that minimalist, loafer look. But the 60s and 70s will always be at the heart of my style – what an amazing time for fashion!

Go-to fashion rule or styling trick? If you don’t want to wear it straight away, don’t buy it.

Favorite part about your job? I work with an amazing team, the other stylists are like my London family. Who gets to work with the people they adore most? And I never know what exciting project is in store for me — photograph a rock star in the latest FP treasures or a cheeky drive up to a flower field. Who knows!

Most challenging part of your job? The Kings Road boutique doesn’t support the same volume as a flagship store in the USA… we’re not as spoiled for choice when it comes to styling and choosing outfits for photoshoots. But I also love the challenge –it really forces you to get creative!

One thing in your closet you could not live with without? My vintage belts, the finishing piece for every outfit!

Margot

Your position at Free People… Wholesale Sales Manager. I present the collections to our wholesale accounts, such as Selfridges and ASOS, and work with the buyers on what pieces will work for their customers.

How does your job influence your personal style? Working with buyers across major cities in Europe and UK, I get to see how they shop and style outfits. This exposure has influenced how I dress by experimenting with new silhouettes and layering. I love meeting new people and am always inspired by how they interpret fashion.

What is your personal style? My style is defined by artful and eclectic details. I love wearing romantic and vintage styles rich in colors.

Go-to fashion rule or styling trick? Be brave, embrace freedom and own your style.

Favorite part about your job? Traveling to new stores and meeting new people. I love how I can learn about the world through my job.

Most challenging part of your job? Accepting that you can’t do everything or be everywhere all at once.

One thing in your closet you could not live with without? My black velvet blazer — it adds the perfect touch of romance to any outfit with the soft drape and shimmering fabric, giving a polished, femme look.
