What’s Holding YOU Back?

Despite those obstacles that we all find challenging to overcome, know that we have every right to go for exactly what we want in life.

This post comes to you from Therapeutic Skin Coach, Hayley Wood.

Whether it’s that raise you’ve been seeking or finding the love of your life, often times we can get stuck in place that makes us feel like life is just not working out for us. The obstacles we face in life can be discouraging from actualizing your dreams and it can feel easier to give up. The truth is that we have every right to go for exactly what we want in life but often times there are roadblocks that feel really challenging. Roadblocks are there to teach you a lesson and reroute you towards a more enlightened version of yourself. The “why” of the roadblocks is really just a test to determine what’s holding you back. So when you are experiencing the same roadblock over and over again, it’s just a matter that you haven’t learned your lesson yet. Here are some steps on what to do when faced with life’s roadblocks so you can life your fullest, dream worthy life.

Timing is everything.

Many of us (especially women) find that we have a timeline mapped out in our heads with how our lives will play out. Landing that big job at 25, married by 27, kids by 30 is not a lot of time to accomplish those 3 big monumental life events. If your goals are stacked heavily on top of each other that sets you up for a lot of work and not a lot of living in between. The moments in between each success of life is full of little lessons that open the door up for the next big accomplishment. Allowing yourself to enjoy the “in between” times can help you see that you are exactly where you need to be. Life’s plan always works out but you can’t force a deadline on it if you are not ready for it. Trust the journey and remember to continue enjoying the ride.

Ask yourself: why?

Finding yourself running in circles with the same outcome only has one thing in common – you. If you’re in the same job hunt, relationship rut or feel less than, it might be time to shake things up. Ask yourself why? Why are you experiencing this roadblock. That simple question can shed clarity on why you may not be ready to shed the barriers holding you stagnant. You may not have learned your necessary lesson yet so you can’t continue to do the same thing. Step out of the comfort zone and try to shift the narrative of your life. This could mean taking the class you need to get the promotion you want, starting a new hobby to attract different people to your life, or just finding a practice that helps you ground so you can crowd out the voices that say “you can’t do it.” Great ways to start revealing the why would be meditating, journaling, or taking a trip to your favorite place in nature. Whenever you don’t have interruptions is when you get the clearest answers.

Your journey is your own.

We all get in the FOMO trap that social media has created with the perfect travel instagram post and the never ending display of big life announcements. When it feels like everyone is having a baby or having their “eat, pray, love” trip of a lifetime, it’s easy to assume that they’re life is better than yours. What you want to remember is that it isn’t about them – it’s about you. Everyone struggles, even in the best time of their lives. Send those thoughts away from your consciousness by acknowledging the good in your life without tearing someone else down. Instead of saying to yourself, “I’m better off because” shift your mindset to say “I send them love on their journey and I am grateful for mine”. Believe it or not there is room for all of us to have a successful and happy life, we each have the roadblocks and massive setbacks, so comparing ourselves is a huge waste of energy.

So as the year starts to come to a close try to gently ask yourself “What’s holding you back?” and if you go through each step without major pause you may be ready to set your intention. Your life is ready for you whenever you are ready to dive it, just remember to continue learning from each roadblock along the way. The more you learn, the more you will have opportunity to expand fully into the next adventure.
