Peruse, ponder, audibly “awww,” lol a little, and enjoy the good news you might have missed:

“My best friend is an 81-year old white woman who lives in a retirement home in Florida,” Spencer Sleyon, a 22-year-old producer from East Harlem said of his Words With Friends companion Rosalind Guttman. Soon, the touching saga leading to their first IRL meeting was sparked—do your best to keep a dry eye while read Rosie’s finale note describing their destined introduction.

From a Frida Kahlo-inspired bathroom to a collection of her favorite prints, of which she adorably admits, “I don’t really actually have any like… art…,” Florence Welch laughs charmingly as she gives a tour of her garden home. From expressing creativity through her dressing room choices to treating her house like a scrapbook of memories, take a truly inspired trip through the down-to-earth songstress’s personal space.

One of the most majestic natural wonders, most people associate an aurora borealis viewing as a luxury experience that has to be enjoyed on another continent. Here, from the log cabins of Alaska to the blue waters of Banff, a list of all of the places you can see the Northern Lights in North America.

With its trumpeting waking villagers up in the early morning, this baby elephant that fell into a well couldn’t escape its slushy fate without some help from a few good Samaritans. As its mother and heard stood nearby, a team of rescuers dug a pathway out of the earth to free the infant. After the family’s tear-jerking reunion, before disappearing into the brush, the mother turned back to the villagers to offer them a stunning gesture that Indian culture has long-revered as a symbol of thankfulness.

Leave it to Rihanna to take the beloved trend of sparkling schoolgirl socks and heels to another planet. Here, the powerhouse blesses the Clueless-inspired movement, encouraging fans near and far to partake in the foot-friendly spin on holiday dance party garb.

With the power to pull oceans, the moon mystifies and inspires with its elusive glow. They’re actually pictures of pancakes.

After losing movement in his legs from a tragic squirrel chase this past September, sweet pitbull Helios was expected to never walk again. Refusing to give up on her best friend despite the vet’s suggestions, Wisconsin’s Jennifer Meden decided to enroll him in swim therapy lessons with coach Nikki Zane. “It was amazing,” Zane proudly confessed. “I wasn’t sure he was going to be able to do it, and he did it.” Watch and applaud as Helios shows off his new moves.

In an incredibly interesting conversation between Beyond The Self’s writers Matthieu Ricard, a molecular biologist who left his career to become a monk, and Wolf Singer, a well-known neuroscientist, the two discuss why the Western brain has a lot to gain from Buddhist practices. The condensed notes from the book provide a window into its logic: “Modern conventional education does not focus on transforming the mind and cultivating basic human qualities such as lovingkindness and mindfulness,” Ricard explains. “As we will see later, Buddhist contemplative science has many things in common with cognitive therapies, in particular with those using mindfulness as a foundation for remedying mental imbalance.”

“Between fast moving clouds, rain showers which lasted no more than two or three minutes, this fantastic moonbow appeared, when the almost-full moon managed to break the clouds,” photographer Guiseppe Petricca wrote in an email to Space.com of the stunning image he captured in Scotland this November. Take a glance at what a rare double moonbow looks like in the sky, frozen in all of its practically cartoon-magical glory.
