FP Escapes in Malibu: Ashe Is to Ashe

The bright-eyed singer/songwriter talks sleep and big girl things before heading to Malibu this July 27th weekend, for a very special event benefitting Girls Inc.

That’s right — as a guest on our latest Escape, you can choose to either attend a dinner curated from the farm at the Malibu Fig Tree Ranch, or stay the weekend at Malibu’s Native Hotel. The proceeds from both packages will be donated to Girls Inc., a non-profit organization that provides a safe third space outside of home and school for girls in inner city communities. This is Free People’s third year supporting Girls Inc. through community programming, advocacy, and financial donations, with proceeds from this particular Escape funding the girls’ nutritional and wellness programming.

On tap for a special performance during the event will be California native Ashe, who’s just released a new album, The Rabbit Hole. Taking time out of her tour, Ashe shares below a bit about herself before meeting you in a few weeks:

Your zodiac sign:

Taurus.

The moment when you first knew that it was MUSIC that mattered…

I think I always knew, but it wasn’t until I graduated high school and realized MUSIC was the only thing that really made sense in my life.

Can you whistle? Do you?

lol I WISH!! Literally the worst whistler everrrrr.

Tell us about your education at Berklee College of Music.

Berklee was like home. I fell in love with jazz there. It took 3,000 miles away from home to realize music was all i needed.

What’s your dream concert lineup?

That I’m innnn??? Or no? Dood… probably… James Taylor, Carole King, then John Mayer comes out and surprises everyone. I’D DIE.

How do you keep healthy while touring?

SLEEEEPP!!! It’s the hardest thing to get on tour, but it’s the only thing that will keep you alive.

What inspires you to write songs?

Literally everything… haha!

Your mantra…

Pull your big girl panties up and move forward.

What are you hoping to learn on your Escape to Malibu?

Gloria Steinem discusses “talking circles” amongst women as being the most healing and culturally defining tools we have in this world. So i’m excited to learn and be a part of our own version of a talking circle on this Escape to Malibu.

+ Join Native Hotel, Malibu Fig Ranch, Yola Mezcal, Honey Hi, Sakara Life, Frankie & Jo’s, and Quaker City Mercantile in this very special circle. XO
