Office Style: Meet Shanna

“My biggest style icon is the older version of Miley Cyrus. She can rock a flannel, band tee and sneakers, and STILL add a bohemian feel to it. “

Your position at Free People…

Digital Technician at the Photo Studio.

Describe your personal style…

My personal style is comfy yet bold. I love pairing statement pieces (like a crazy pant or velvet trench) with band tees and t-shirts. Sneakers and combat boots are my go-to shoe. I love taking super femme pieces and pairing them with something a bit edgier to make it feel more boyish.

What makes you feel confident?

Being myself makes me the most confident. I love when I stand out from everyone else and can proudly say ‘wow, that outfit feels really me’ or ‘that haircut is crazy but would be so cool’!

Who is your style icon?

Although I get most of my style inspiration from random 70s/80s/90s ads, I feel like my biggest style icon is the older version of Miley Cyrus. She can rock a flannel, band tee and sneakers, and STILL add a bohemian feel to it. I actually found out about Free People when I was a kid because I used to Google all her outfits — she mostly shopped here!

Favorite part of your job?

Getting to work side by side every day with the stylists. Although photography is my passion, I’ve always been really into fashion and styling. The studio allows me to have the best of both worlds and be immersed in everything.

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?

Definitely a sea salt spray. I wear my hair natural almost every day, and adding a little sea salt gives it just enough enough texture! My favorite beauty products are Pai’s Rosehip Oil and O.R.G mineral peel. I struggled with acne as a kid and once I started these two products, it dramatically changed the texture of my once-scarred skin!

What do you do outside of Free People?

I love to walk around South Philly and go vintage/thrift shopping or snacking on a cheese board outside local restaurants. But, in all honestly, my favorite thing to do outside work is to take my dog, Kelso, to the dog park!

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ugh, definitely any band tee. (I’m not sure I could pick just one!) I feel like a good band tee goes well with anything, and they are so comfy!

Your favorite (upcoming) trend…

The silk slip style skirts! They are so easy to pair with combat boots and a t-shirt — super femme (with the skirt) but still gives you that edgy tomboy style!!!!

Best concert you’ve attended OR dream concert you’d love to attend:

Definitely an Aerosmith concert. My dad and went to Disneyworld many times and rode the Aerosmith roller coaster, and I fell in love with their music then. It would be a dream to jam out to “Walk This Way!”

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.

I feel like I wear a lot of “embarrassing” things all the time, haha. My style is very much the craziest pieces I can find. One time I wore a bright yellow all-velvet jumpsuit from Zara… I thought it was rad but I guess a little crazy.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.

To always be myself! I think social media makes that pretty hard, seeing so many influencers and aspiring to be them, but I really think it’s important to true to you.

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery today?

Pay off my student loans! But if I had to do something fun with it, I’d definitely spoil my dog .
