You Have A Date This Weekend… with LELO

Enter: the Swedish company who is making some of the best, most design-forward, most sex-positive toys and products out there…

Stop for a second and think about everything you’ve purchased in the last six months that cost over $100. Depending on your financial situation, I’d dare to guess that the list is not as short as you might think. From clothing to accessories, skincare to haircare appointments, meals to experiences, gifts to groceries, it’s easy to see where your money goes when you list it out.

And while there’s a reason the old phrase “money can’t buy happiness” is still around, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with spending money on taking care of yourself and on the things you think are necessary to feel your best.

You know what falls into this “feel your best” category? Self-love, and I’m not talking about the kind of self-love where you look in the mirror every morning and tell yourself you’re great. (Not that that’s not true.) Nope, I’m talking about the kind of self-love where you might open an incognito window on your laptop browser, maybe light a few candles, and get cozy and personal with yourself. In other words: masturbation.

Don’t blush! Exploring and playing is a totally normal, totally natural, totally fun aspect of having a human body. And it’s definitely not something you should feel ashamed to spend money on. Which brings me to LELO, the Swedish company making some of the best, most design-forward, most sex-positive toys and products out there.

Sure, they may sell the world’s most expensive vibrator — a 24-karat, gold-plated number that will run you $15,000 — but they also sell literal award-winning everyday products that, when you consider the cost-per-use, will basically end up being free. Not to mention the fact that one of the brand’s missions is to challenge preconceived ideas about sex and self-love, encourage open and honest discussion around the subject, and promote a healthy relationship with the idea (and act) of sexual pleasure, whether with a partner or solo.

And since no two bodies are alike, that means no two sexual preferences — both physical and mental — are alike, either. Which is why LELO has done away with the forms and designs of yesteryear, those potentially intimidating things that look like, well, the anatomy of whatever they were trying to replicate. Instead, LELO’s non-traditional approach places form and function on the same level, so much so that everything from their vibrators to hula beads looks more like chic nightstand accessories than something you’d feel the need to bury under a pile of sweaters in a drawer.

LELO also knows that there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing, and so their products are made to last. Since a good sex toy can last you years, their products are easy to charge, easy to clean, and easy to love, no matter your stimulation preference. (Most LELO products come with a 10-year warranty, which is definitely not the industry standard.)

So sure, you could keep buying cheap, non-nuanced vibrators and toys that last a couple of months before sadly sputtering to death at the worst possible moment. Or you could not masturbate at all. Or you could stick with your own two hands and some imagination. Or, you could treat yourself to a product that is literally designed to make you feel good physically (and, in turn, improve your mood and skin — just saying) and make you feel good emotionally about feeling good physically. How many $100 pairs of shoes in your closet can boast that as an accomplishment?
