Office Style: Meet Rachel

“I grew up a tomboy in farm country, so throwing on boots or Converse with a pair of jeans are my go-to’s. Baggy sweaters and basic tees are a must. I’m all about low maintenance.”

Your position at Free People:

I’m a File Manager Assistant (basically the gatekeeper of all digital imagery).

Describe your personal style:

My style is a bit all over the place, but it always comes down to whatever makes me feel comfortable.

I grew up a tomboy in farm country, so throwing on boots or Converse with a pair of jeans are my go-to’s. Baggy sweaters and basic tees are a must. I’m all about low maintenance.

However, if I’m dressing up…I always gravitate towards maxi dresses. There is just something so simple and feminine about them that I really adore.

What makes you feel confident?

If I’m not comfortable in what I’m wearing, it’s going to be written all over my face.

A strong cup of coffee and a cute dog to play with also helps quite a bit.

Who is your style icon?

How do you choose just one?

Maggie Rogers has such an incredibly unique style that I admire. She jumps from basic to bold so effortlessly and projects an infectious sense of confidence. As a fellow freckle face, I also swoon over her minimal makeup and overall fresh look.

On the other hand, I am obsessed with Mandy Moore’s style throughout the years. She is the queen of maxi dress perfection. I’m in awe of her on red carpets and even her basic everyday style. She makes it look effortless and seems to dress for herself.

Favorite part about your job?

Being able to see everything come together. My team works closely with the photo studio, so we get to see the stylists and photographers work their magic to create the incredible images that get passed to us. Combine that with good people and cute dogs…it’s a pretty incredible environment to work in.

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?

Skincare is one of the few items that I allow myself to splurge on, but they must be cruelty-free. I’m obsessed with everything created by Drunk Elephant, Glossier and RMS Beauty.

Multivitamins and a predominantly plant-based diet are also key for me.

What do you do outside of Free People?

When I’m not at Free People, I can usually be found volunteering at Street Tails Animal Rescue (located in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia).

Animals have always been a huge part of my life, but my interest in shelter work really blossomed once I moved to Philadelphia. I’ve now been with them going on 7 years.

I’m there working with the dogs multiple times a week, and can’t imagine using my time for anything else.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A quality pair of high-waist jeans, basic tee, Converse, and a beanie.

Your favorite (upcoming) trend?

At the moment, I’m currently into the large comfy sweater/maxi skirt trend, but I’m also really into print mixing.

Best concert you’ve attended or dream concert you’d love to attend?

Ryan Adams playing solo at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. The space is so beautiful and intimate which lent itself to the fact that it was just him accompanied by a piano and two guitars. I attended by myself, and it was absolutely perfect.

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn:

I was known for wearing almost anything hanging in my Grandpa’s closet in high school. Yes…polyester was not limited.

I’m sure there has been an insane amount since, but I’ve mentally blocked them out for good reason.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.

You can and you will.

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery today?

Pay off my student loans.
