Mindset is everything. Your thoughts become your actions, and ultimately it’s these actions that display how you show up in the world for yourself and others. When it comes to reaching your goals and creating a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, your mindset needs to be considered. This piece of the wellness puzzle often gets overlooked, but is THE key to becoming the best version of yourself.

The reason many people struggle with consistency is not because they lack willpower or a plan, it’s because of their mindset. Negative thoughts become self-sabotaging, creating a downward spiral of thoughts that pull you further away from your goals. Your negative thoughts essentially become the reason you get stuck in a rut. They’re the barrier for grasping that internal motivation the propels you forward. But it doesn’t have to be this way! You have the power to shift your mindset, and it’s easier than you think.

How to shift your mindset to reach your health goals.

Shifting your mindset is a simple process of noticing a thought and redirecting it. You can go more in depth if you have the time or are new to the practice. Here’s how: Start by writing down your negative thought, along with the reason you’re feeling that way. Next, cross off your negative thought and rewrite a positive one. The physical act of crossing off and rewriting the new positive thought helps reinforce the act. When you consistently redirect or rewrite your thoughts, they start becoming second nature. You’re essentially creating a new positive habit for your brain.

When you identify negative thoughts and shift your mindset, you create a boost of positive energy. This momentum helps push through challenges and setbacks so you continue to move forward towards your goals. If you feel overwhelmed, don’t worry! This positivity process takes time. It’s natural not to always have positive thoughts.

To get you started, below are some common negative thoughts redirected to a more positive mindset.

“I overate and I blew my diet.” → “With very meal I have a chance to start fresh and nourish my body.”

“I will never look like her.” → “I’m beautifully unique and won’t compare myself to others.”

“I never follow through with my goals.” → “What one small step can I make today that’s in line with my goal?”

“This is my cheat meal.” →  “I eat a balanced diet that includes all foods I enjoy.”

Believe in yourself and you will achieve your health and wellness goals this new year. Continue eating well, moving your beautiful body and practicing self-care regularly. These are key pieces to feeling your best. Adopt a positive mindset and take your wellness one step further. Positivity creates momentum that keeps you going, to becoming the best version of yourself this year and making it last.

My ah-ha moment was when I pulled together all of my drinking glasses & vessels. We had over 175 of them. All this for two people in our house–who rarely entertain!! There were drinking glasses, beer glasses, Tervis glasses, margarita glasses, wine glasses, plastic kiddie cups, coffee cups, tea cups, cups that came with our formal china, and souvenir glasses from our cruises. And then there were the water bottles and thermoses. Enough already!! We donated over half of them to our local thrift store–but I know we still have way more than we need.
