Office Style: Meet Afton

“Don’t chase dreams other people have for you.”

Your position at Free People…

Associate Buyer, Intimates.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on getting engaged!! Have you set a date?

Thank you! Yes, date is 10/12/2019. I have always loved the idea of a fall wedding with the leaves changing.

What has been the most challenging part of planning your wedding?

Honestly, I am lucky that I am a decisive person. It can be really easy to get bogged down with the details and second guess everything. I think the hardest part so far has been finding the bridesmaid dresses — trying to find 1 dress that 6 women are all happy with is no easy task!

What has been the best part? (I personally think mine would be the food tasting, lol!)

So far, my favorite part has been shopping for my wedding dress. I went with just my mom, dad and sister (who is my maid of honor) and it was such a memorable experience! I have my walk-through in April which is when I will plan the food, flowers, flatware… all of those details which I am so looking forward to.

Will Stella be a part of your day?

I fully accept that I am a crazy dog lady, so yes — she will definitely be a part of the big day…trying to convince my fiancée to let her be the ring bearer.

What is one piece of advice you’d give any newly engaged couple about planning their big day?

When I first started the whole planning process, my mom told me “this wedding is one day of your life, your marriage is forever” and that really put it in perspective for me. It is so easy to get overwhelmed and caught up in details that at the end of the day don’t really matter.

Wearing: the Dr. Martens Hurston Chelsea Boot.

Describe your personal style…

Constantly evolving, but usually minimalist with fun accessory pops (I love a fun shoe).

What makes you feel confident?

Working at a company with strong, independent and like-minded women.

What do you do outside of Free People?

I love to workout, usually dynamic CrossFit workouts and/or circuits, but I just got a Peloton bike for Christmas which I am addicted to.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That is tough…I would have to say high waisted denim, seamless top and heeled boots. At the end of the day I love to be comfortable .

Wearing: the Sandrine Rose Janis Jeans

Your favorite (upcoming) trend…

Bike shorts!

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.

Take your pick of any bodycon dress I wore to my high school dances…the makeup was bad, too.

Stella gets my vote for ring bearer, and you just know that she will love any dress you put her four paws into-just no high heels please! “Just saying” from another Crazy Dog Lady!
