Office Style: Meet Miranda

“Stop sweating the small stuff because you’re going to end up exactly where you’re supposed to be.”

Your position at Free People…
I’m the Assistant Planner for Tops!

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Like most people, I’ve changed my mind about this about a million times. I always wanted to work in a very creative environment. When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer, when I got to college I decided that I was going to be an architect, then I thought that I wanted to try advertising, and for a while I was going to be a graphic designer. I think it was my passion for the brand, coupled with my interest in numbers and fashion, that ultimately led me to my position at Free People. I definitely learned a lot along the way but couldn’t be happier with where I’ve ended up.

What does your typical work day look like?
I always start my day with a coffee and a quick skim through the New York Times, Manrepeller and Girlboss but, to be honest, no work day is really the same. I’ll often send out reports and recaps to my team to help us understand how our business is doing, meet with buyers, go over reorders and build worksheets that will help my team plan for our styles.

Favorite part of your job?
Seeing how all of the different roles that everyone plays finally come together to bring concepts to life. It’s honestly magical.

Describe your personal style…
My style depends largely on the mood that I’m in but for the most part I’d have to say I’m pretty girly with a bit of an edge. I’ll usually throw on a flowy dress or a skirt then pair it with an oversized jacket and booties or my Docs. I’m really also big on hats these days. Whether it’s a bad hair day or a great one, a basic hat will give any outfit that finishing touch.

What makes you feel confident?
Belting out to Queen alone in my car. Probably not the best concert, but in those moments, I’m a star.

Wearing: the French Courtship Slip, the Aurora Felt Hat, and the Suede Moto Jacket

Who is your style icon?
Stevie Nicks! My mom and I are big Fleetwood Mac fans and I just love her different looks over the years.

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (smells like chocolate).
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel Mini.
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Balm.

What do you do outside of Free People?
I’m someone that is constantly on the move. Whether I’m traveling somewhere new, heading to a concert, going for a scenic hike, hitting the beach or just meeting up with my friends at the bar, adventure and experiences are what truly fuel me.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I bought an oversized denim jacket while I was in Sydney, Australia. I was told that it was meant for men once I got to the register, and it’s my favorite thing that I own.

Favorite place you’ve ever visited and why
Queenstown, New Zealand. I’ve never seen a more beautiful place in my entire life. The town was absolutely adorable and the views were straight out of a movie. There was also just so much to do! My favorite part of the trip has to be when I went ATVing through the hills just outside of town. There’s nothing in the world quite like it.

What song would describe you best?
“Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles. I wouldn’t say that it necessarily describes me but it’s my favorite and it means a lot to me.

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.
Checkerboard skinny jeans and layered Sugarlip tank tops with those extra hi top Converse… I was going through a phase.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.
Stop sweating the small stuff because you’re going to end up exactly where you’re supposed to be.
