Office Style: Meet Morgan

Morgan’s style mantra is one that we should all aspire to abide by: “Dare to be different.”

Your position at Free People…
Display Coordinator Assistant.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger I always told my parents I wanted to be a fashion designer and drive a blue Volkswagen beetle. I don’t know why those two things went together, but at the time it made sense. As I got older I realized I didn’t want to design clothing but I still wanted to work in the industry, so I went to school for fashion merchandising and now here I am!

What does your typical work day look like?
I wish there was a typical day… Though that’s what I love about my job — every day is super different. Some days I’m at my desk working on display order sheets and inspiration books, while other days I’m in our workshop helping create next season’s display. I also get to work on various projects like adding hand touches to marketing events, traveling to install pop ups, and updating the Bldg 25 lobby wall.

Favorite part of your job?
Besides being able to work alongside my incredible team. I think my favorite part is seeing everything that the team designs and develops come to life. It’s a really gratifying experience to see our display installed in stores during our seasonal rollouts.

Describe your personal style…
My personal style is definitely dependent on my mood, but to sum it all up I would say it’s “boho rocker chic.”

What makes you feel confident?
A great pair of jeans, a good hair day, and a positive attitude.

Who is your style icon?
I’ve currently been feeling really inspired by Anine Bing as well as Nikki Westport & Lucy Jackson of Wild Ones

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?
Pai Rosehip ReGenerate Oil
Valjean Labs Facial Mist
Youth to the People Superfood Mask
Glossier Boy Brow
My reusable water bottle.
Taking time to meditate.

Wearing: the Annalisa Denim Jacket

What do you do outside of Free People?
Going to flea markets, checking out live music, trying new places to eat, and taking trips to the beach. Also, I have a goal that by the end of the year I’m going to sign up to take pottery and jewelry making classes. There are just so many things I still have yet to explore in Philly, even though I’ve lived here since 2011, so I’ve created a local bucket list for myself.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hands-down — black ripped jeans, an oversized vintage band tee, snakeskin boots, and a great pair of statement earrings.

Favorite place you’ve ever visited and why
Tybee Island in Georgia. I just went this year with two of my closest friends and had a blast. It’s a really cool beach town with a lot of history, great food, and fun locals. We did everything from going to a feral cat benefit to venturing into Savannah to go on a ghost tour. I’m really excited to be able to go back next year and explore some more!

What song would describe you best?
“Dancing Queen” by Abba.

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.
This is difficult as I went through so many phases when I was younger, that I’ve had my fair share of embarrassing outfits. I was heavily influenced by celebrity style and would always read teen gossip magazines so I could try to copy outfits I thought were super cool. I think the one that takes the cake was from my preppy phase in 7th grade. I wore a patchwork plaid miniskirt with double layered polo shirts (yes, I popped the collars), and moccasins. Also, I want to note that I went to private school so I wore a plaid skirt every day of the week and have no clue why I would want to also wear one on the weekends.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.
“Dare to be different.” For as long as I can remember my aunt always told me this and she still does to this day. I think it’s the best advice I’ve ever received and wish I would have followed it more closely when I was growing up.
