Office Style: Meet Madison

“Train yourself to be an organized person — it is for sure the most important part of my role.”

What did you want to be growing up?

I’ve always loved clothes and fashion but, as a little kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Playing dress up with my sister and our dog was a common occurrence at our house. I’m a huge animal lover but as I got older I knew I wasn’t meant for the reality of the medical field. I don’t think my heart could handle all of the sick animals.

Your first job – what/ where?

My first job ever was working at a children’s gift and candy shop in my hometown called ‘G.Wilikers’. Our specialty was baskets and gift wrapping — I learned some pretty mean gift wrapping skills there.

Toughest obstacle you’ve overcome:

After going to college in Philadelphia, I never thought I would want to stay post-grad, but here I am 3 years later! I’ve made a new life here but I’m originally from NY so it’s for sure been tough living away from my family/pups/friends.
I’m lucky to have great friends and a boyfriend to make it feel like home.

Your current position at Free People….

I’m an Assistant Design Coordinator for FP knit tops!

How did you land at FP?

I’ve been a Free People shopper ever since I was in high school and decided to get a job in-store while in college. After working as a manager in the Philly stores, I made the jump over to home office!

Wearing the Bermuda Heels

What drew you to it?

From a fashion perspective, Free People has been my favorite ever since I could fit into the sizes. I lucked out by having an FP location close by while I was in school. After working in store I knew I wanted to continue to grow with the company and hoped one day I would be where I am now!

Proudest work moment:

Making the jump from store management to home office has been my proudest moment so far! I always knew I wanted to work in the corporate setting, but it was easy to have fun and be content, even though I knew I wanted more. I’m proud of how I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and was able to make the transition happen because it definitely didn’t come easy.

What advice would you give someone who’d like to be in your role one day?

My best piece of advice would be to train yourself to be an organized person — it is for sure the most important part of my role. As a Coordinator, you have to keep tabs on a lot of different things — without solid organizational skills it would be way tougher. (*great role for Virgo gals like me*)

Favorite part of working at Free People:

The people and the culture at FP truly can’t be beat. It is so inspiring to work with such creative women! The whole bring-your-dog-to-work thing is pretty rad, too. I don’t have a pup of my own (yet!) but having them around makes for a nice and relaxed work environment.

Your anthem / theme song?

ANYTHING by Greta Van Fleet! If there were a movie about my life I’d want those boys to do the whole soundtrack.
