Chemist, or Free People color magician? Both? Read on and decide for yourself….
What did you want to be growing up?
For a while, I was set on being a cosmetic chemist!
Your first job – what/ where?
My first job was at a fancy chocolate cafe where they let you eat whatever you wanted. :)
Toughest obstacle you’ve overcome:
Learning how to let go of destructive personal narratives.
Your current position at Free People….
I’m the Creative Dyer.
How did you land at FP?
It fell into my lap. A friend of mine sent the posting to me! A couple months later, I was hired.
What drew you to it?
I had been focused on dyeing for many years, and didn’t realize this job existed. I get to do what I love every day.
Proudest work moment:
Well, it’ll be launching this week! I worked with our vintage buyer Ali to put together a small batch of one-of-a-kind botanically hand dyed silk slips. If you are curious about the process, you can read more about it here. I specialize in natural dyes, so this project has been a real dream for me!
What advice would you give someone who’d like to be in your role one day?
Make stuff!! And learn the chemistry.
Favorite part of working at Free People:
The trust the brand has in everyone’s talent.
Your anthem / theme song?
Oh, whatever song I wake up with in my head. Today it was Jorja Smith, yesterday it was Billy Joel.
