FP x World Clean Up Day 2021

For the second year in a row, we’ve partnered with the National Parks Foundation to beautify our backyards as part of World Clean Up Week. Read on to learn more about the impact we’ve made so far…

In case you missed it, September 18th was World Clean Up Day. (And, if you want to get a jumpstart on 2022, mark September 17th on your calendars NOW!)

Started in 2008 by volunteers in the European country of Estonia (who, with 50,000 people in tow, set out to clean up the entire country), this impactful civic movement has now sparked interest and engagement worldwide by encouraging local communities to get outside and, well, clean up.

In support of such an initiative, Free People, with help from our volunteer hours program (which offers every employee 8 volunteer hours each quarter), took part for a second consecutive year. Through our ongoing partnership with the National Parks Foundation, this year’s efforts saw us impact  3 countries, and  27 cities, culminating in the collection of 6,150 pounds of trash!

“Once we finished, it felt good to look around and know that we had made a real difference, seeing clean pathways and grass that were covered in trash before we arrived.”

Like last year, our team members uploaded photos of their trash-picking efforts to Instagram, tagging each with #carefp, and for each post, we donated an $5 to the National Parks Foundation, raising a total of $20,000, surpassing last year’s donation!

“I’m lucky to work for a company who encourages employees to volunteer their time to make a difference in the world”

We are proud to have made a difference in our communities, by banding together and getting outside to make our corner of the world a little cleaner. Until next September, know we are committed to finding more ways to be of service, to the environment and to one another, by practicing a little clean-up each and every day.
