Fp One

Here’s a bit of insight into one of our Exclusive Brands!!!

Fp One is a very inspiring ‘Gem’ within the Free People community. I chatted with the brains behind the Fp One brand on the phone the other day, about how this label came about and couldn’t help but be slightly overwhelmed by her tales and experiences.

The designer for Fp One has lived in India for 20 years. Whilst visiting, she became intrigued and inspired by how these beautiful Indian workers, worked so effectively from their homes using traditional hand crafted techniques. She found herself joining these workers and getting involved in the process alongside them “ It was very hands on, and became very effective with the design process” She helped them make traditional techniques modern, to create items that now contribute to Free people’s top sellers!

The design details used on the Fp One garments are ideas that came from the design elements in the Free People stores like the Hangers, Curtains, Cushion covers and the mannequins. The designer for Fp One would play around with found fabrics that were easy and accessible to obtain, to create one-of-a kind fashion pieces with amazing character to them. You’ll find that most of the Fp One items are never the same as another in its style group.

With the crinkle items that are doing well for us at the moment a technique is used that has been inhabited by the Indian workers for over 100 years, it’s a traditional technique made effective.

When the Fp One designer finds fabrics that are great she likes to push them to the best of their ability. Say for instance the Muslin Voile fabric that is used for the shopper bag in stores – it is also used for the ‘ends in sequins dress’ and the ‘petticoat dress’ featured on the front cover of the March Catalog – yep the same fabric can you believe it.

The Fp one items have a huge exclusivity appeal about them, just like vintage items do. I love how crafted each one is, the raw-ness of them and the delicate nature they have.

They are precious in more ways than one!

We are featured as one of the best places to work, Which is pretty exciting!!!

I got shown this book today “I Wish I Worked There!” It’s a very cool book by Kursty Groves co founder of Headspace and www.spacehopper.com and Will Knight the founder of Brew, a London and New York based creative collective.

The book reveals some of the world’s most inspiring workplaces and we are in there!

Here’s an excerpt

“An environment that appeals to their imagination and encourages them to explore…

“The Philosophy has fuelled a multitude of creative solutions and whimsical additions to the working environment over and above the restoration and preservation of the buildings themselves. An acid bath is transformed into a fern garden, former wood columns become grand staircases, and an abandoned decompression chamber has a new life as a sculptural piece between buildings”

This book is great – Google’s and Innocent work space looks pretty fun too, but i think we give them a run for their money!

Free People girls

One of our creative’s put together a lovely snapshot of each girl that categorizes each of our trends. So now you can put a visual image to each name. The girls are all from past catalogs, which is even better!

I thought they were kinda cool and a good way to adapt to the looks in the future. So here you go. Maybe they’ll stick in your mind too.

Candy  = the lacey, pretty girl

Meadow = the bohemian girl

Ginger = the body con girl

Sandy  = the beach girl

Lou    = the boy girl

Which girl do you think you are?

We’d love to know!

Office Style

“My turquoise ring was made and purchased in my hometown…from the very rare star turquoise. I may have the only one of its kind.
The other is a wolf ring purchased in the company of my friend and co-worker kris chau whilst perusing the shops on chestnut st in philadelphia.
The silver buckle-y bracelet was a thrift shop find (also in philadelphia) thanks to the good eye of my friend kim williams.
The leather tooled bracelet and I love america bracelet are both from thrift shops? I think.
And my ribbon/braided bracelets are there because I am constantly wishing for peace on earth and endless love and I decided I needed to make them come true
By placing wishes on material things that will fall off and therefore render my dream true. Though if I just shared my dreams out loud, did I void them? “:(

‘The Rhythm of the Night’

000_0025[1]Untitled-5

Surreal, lullingly pleasant, quirky and warm. Were all senses that were provoking the air around me last night.

The night was Vetiver at Johnny Brendas here in Philly.I’ve always been a huge fan of Andy Cabric, I think his voice is something very special and it helps that he can jig around a little with his guitar too!

The evening was magical, especially for a Monday night.

My wandering eye was pinned on this sweet looking folk girl and her beau. How great do they look? I think they must have jumped straight on the bus from Laurel Canyon.

A Perfect folk outfit don’t you think?

Crazed about denim

It’s all folked up in my mind!

My obsession for denim has increased to a maximum high, I’m lov’in everything from cute cut offs, straight legged ripped jeans and waistcoats. I have in mind ‘Penny Lane’ with an ‘I’m with the band’ attitude!

The WE THE FREE Genetic patched flare and the distressed KELLY flare by Genetic are a perfect attribute to this mindset I have right now.

All I need for completion is a cute band and a 1070’s VW camper and I’m done!

An Item Of LOVE

I’m head over heels in LOVE with the Lucky Charm Romper. Cleverly enough it can become two outfits for the price of one!

Wear it under denim shorts to reveal a cute peek-a-boo of ditsy print or just on its own- I’ll be wearing mine with barely there blank tights, seductively loose slouchy socks and ankle boots, with a big chunky cardigan, until the sun starts to give warmth.

Oh and keep your eyes open for the piece in the up and coming Feb Catalog- It’s candy to the eyes!

She comes with colours in her hair

hairpost1hair 006

As of late rainbow hair has become a massive trend, I’m constantly stumbling upon this craze on the World Wide Web-bloggers are going crazy for it, Stylists and Magazines are crazy over it and moreover I’m CrAzY over it!

It doesn’t help when I sit next to a FP girl here at the office that has a beautiful faded pink strand in her golden hair. Me want and Me like!

If you haven’t seen the Beautiful video on Vogue Australia of Abbey Lee behind the scenes on the Vogue cover photoshoot I suggest you do! click

If you haven’t picked up Dazed and Confused Dec Issue yet in which the Caption States:

“Tie-dye takes over hair in a spirited approach to Autumn/winter’s crazy colours, moving it beyond it’s hippie heritage”

I suggest you do- Styling is done by Katie Shillingford and its ace!

Celebrity Spot-Ashley Tisdale

We found this pic on Mesmerizingstyle.net of Ashley Tisdale wearing the We The Free Cutout Pullover.

Doesn’t she look Rock ‘N’ Roll!

I love how simple her outfit is. However, considerations were made to make it look super sexy-Thigh high boots and a cluster of jewelry. I’m Lovin layering my jewelry at the moment, the more the merrier I say!

With that in Mind, I have my eyes on these beauties from FreePeople(above)

A Girl we much LOVE

Isabel Lucas is a girl I admire so much. I love her relaxed approach to fashion, she never looks boring. I find there’s always little touches to her outfits that intrigues me whether it’s a floral scarf, a little pinch of embroidery or a wicked vintage T. She knows how to use fashion to create a style that works for her personality and comfort zone. Above all, she has a great heart. She’s an active volunteer for so many charities that it’s hard to keep track of her. One of her most recent being Sea Shephard.

She’s my favorite muse, I heart her!
