We have a new book club read this week! I’ve recently been reading great reviews about Joan Didion’s novel Play It As It Lays and bought it to start my series of summer reads. There has been much praise about the literary quality of this book. I love descriptive writing more than anything and a book written beautifully kills me every time, so I thought I’d give it a go. Play It As It Lays is about American life in the late 1960’s – it captures the mood of an entire generation, set in a place beyond good and evil – literally in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and the barren wasteland of the Mojave Desert.
What I love about springtime the most is the transition — when you start to feel the weather getting a little warmer, when you see the first buds appear on the trees and then everything starts to glow and become bright. Things are given a new life. This spring I have decided to decorate my back porch and start to grow herbs and flowers, starting this weekend. I have been researching heirloom seeds and have purchased a couple of packets from The Happy Cat Farm right here in Philly.
For many months now I have been drinking lemon, honey, ginger and cayenne pepper throughout the day. It awakens me and stimulates my senses. Ginger is very good for the stomach and the lemon and cayenne pepper help to open up the nasal passages, allowing a nice breathing pattern. I always have a sweet tooth — especially during mid-day — and the honey in the drink helps to soothe it. Read More
I’m drawn to textures, crochet, lace, embroideries, and dimensional prints – maybe it’s because I’m curious by touch. I love intricate things and the enchantment they bring. Read More
Come warmer days my nails come alive with color, like buds on a tree. I love the slight bit of happiness they bring when I glance at them and when I’m typing on my keyboard. Read More
When I’m stuck in a mental block, a creative dry land and my head feels tight with frustration I pick up a pencil and draw until everything has eased up. Read More
I live in a small row home in Fishtown, Philadelphia. It’s old and I like that. A trickle of sunshine seeps through on a sunny day… that’s when my home feels the most magical — and at night when then sun is going down and I get to light my favorite candles. Inside my home is quite simple. I moved here from the UK with one suitcase of clothes, so I’ve been gradually collecting things over the years that mean a lot to me and tell a story. Read More
A summer jacket is a must for those days when there’s a little breeze. A lightweight jacket that’s fun, summery and cool enough to throw on top of your tank tops and pretty dresses. We love summer jackets that have prints, embroidery and cool details on them. They make an outfit come alive and don’t shy away from the fun wardrobe that summer is known for.
“Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars? Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic. It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.”
~ Nora Roberts
I believe in magic, every time I look at the stars in the sky long enough the feeling of magic runs through me. The longer you stare the more they appear, captivating you more and more second by second. Read More
Hello Day Dream Believers, Warm days are finally upon us and I just wanted to share with you my sweet weekend of breakfasts. There is a wonderful toast spot not to far from my home where I had a cappuccino and slice of burnt brioche with fresh rhubarb jam and ricotta cheese. My Sam had a bowl of brown rice porridge with blueberry rhubarb jam and what I love most is that they use a whole vanilla bean in each bowl. Read More
This week’s shop-able street style comes from LA — a monochrome outfit that’s easy but makes a statement. We love how fun this sweater is and how it’s long enough to make a tunic-style dress. She has teamed it with ankle booties, making the look cool and desirable.
Coachella is kicking off this weekend and to inspire you with some styling, for this week’s 60-second stylist we have created 3 desirable looks that we love for festival season. Read More
