Recently, one of our Facebook friends wrote in and asked if we had some photos of the Free People line from back in the 1980’s! Luckily for her, and for all of us, our Assistant Art Director Carrie was kind enough to put together this little video! It features items from the very beginning, when Urban Outfitters was just starting back in the 70’s and had one little shop in West Philadelphia, called The Free People’s Store. Then it moves on through the 1980’s to our inception as a separate brand, and evolves on to now! It’s really fun to see our development over time and look at all the vintage Free People styles! Enjoy!
I can’t stop admiring these rather surreal pieces by Tyson Skross. After moving to rural Switzerland from Texas at the age of nine, he became intrigued with the odd natural phenomena that he often witnessed. This sort of altered reality and intangibility is what he tries to bring to his work. So strangely beautiful! See more here and here.

Last week we shot the photos for our upcoming catalog in August, and we had some very special models! Our August book will feature some wonderful doggies and kitties from the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, also known as PAWS, in the hopes of raising awareness of all the sweet animals in shelters around the country who need a loving home!
Since the catalog won’t be coming out until August, our intrepid Graphic Designer Kevin was on the scene and made sure to interview some of our furry models! Almost all of these guys and gals are currently up for adoption, so if you see someone you’d like to meet, don’t be afraid to contact PAWS and let them know! My kitty is from PAWS, and he has made me and my boyfriend so very happy since the moment we met him! It’s totally worth it!
Wherever you live, if you are looking for a furry best friend, be sure to check out your local shelter. They are easily found on the web or in the yellow pages, and when you get your friend from the shelter, you really are also saving a life! I can’t imagine life without my kitty Homer!
Okay so this is interesting – the video below captures police in Denmark hugging helmet-less cyclists and giving them helmets. I know it’s probably just a propaganda thing, but do you guys know anything about this? Even if it is a stunt for good press, it’s really cute to see. Good effort!
