The sweetest thing

Nothing is more beautiful than a ceremony that comes from the heart. A couple I know, Adam Smith and Halligan Norris got married back last year in Brooklet, Savannah at a renovated barn. I was blown away by the creativeness and the beauty of their special day.

The theme was, Southern Country Fair/Vintage Circus, it evolved from  Halli’s love of vintage circus treasures and a theme that has been a huge inpsirtation towards her personal artwork.

They wanted people to feel like they were in a country fair, so every little detail with help from loved ones was considered and brought to life with the communal help from loved ones. Popcorn machines, a kissing booth and a food menu that consisted of mini hot dogs, french fries, kabobs, mini hamburgers, potato salad,  and cotton candy!

When asked about her wedding dress Halli states “I knew I would never find the dress I wanted in a store, but I did know my good girl friend Chelsea Cook’s designs were just what I was in the market for.  I wanted to look like the girl on top of the elephant at the circus.  That’s basically all the instruction I gave her and of course she made the perfect little number for me.”

This wedding always makes me smile!

The photos were shot by Josh Goleman, and  Adam and Halli  are an extemely creative couple. Click on their names to visit their websites.

wednes-diy

with today being the first day of fall, these table arrangements i saw on design sponge – using straw flowers and heirloom tomatoes –  felt really appropriate as today’s DIY.  the colors are gorgeous!

the top two photos are my favorite- i would just leave the flowers and tomatoes like that as table decorations! for instructions on how to make the flower garland, check out the tutorial here.

Turning Leaf

Over here in Philly I felt the chill in the air today, and it felt good. Autumn is my favorite time of year, the freshness: the crisp leaves, the warmth of the colours, and the opportunity to wear cozy clothes. I get very sentimental when I feel the chill biting through my skin. I got to my desk this morning and listened to Owen on my ipod, thoughts of getting lost in a forest and kicking leaves around, finding a log to sit on to drink hot chocolate from a flask came flooding into my imagination. It felt nice…

I think I’m going to stay right here in this mindset all day long.

Ohhhhhhhhhh man, I love autumn!

I’m pretty excited about going to an American pumpkin patch and going apple picking for a day.

I’d love to know if you guys have any fun Fall activities to share as this is my first American Fall :)

a free people wedding

one of our fp girls got married on saturday! the wedding took place at her brother and sister in-law’s farm in christiana, pa.  there were no wedding planners- everything was put together by the bride and groom and their friends and family.  the bride looked stunning in a white free people dress (from the cover of our february catalog) and sparrow ankle boots!

half of the guests set up camp and stayed the night under the stars – there was a live bluegrass band, a huge campfire and lots of smores.  a string band from asheville, north carolina, called “chompin at the bit” played the cocktail hour, followed by a surprise appearance by “the family band,” comprised of the bride’s family, who played one of the newlyweds’ most favorite songs- “home” by edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros.

sounds perfect :)

yoga month – guest post!

in honor of yoga month, please enjoy the first in a series of guest posts from one of our awesome fp girls :)

Hi there! I am former blogger “fp girl” and now I work on the accessories buying team. This spring I got certified to teach yoga, and being that September is Yoga Month, thought I’d share a bit about my yoga journey.

I first started practicing yoga about 5 years ago as a way to stay in shape and decompress after work. I hear a lot of people get frustrated finding a studio they like.  I was very lucky to find a studio right away that I connected with. The teachers were  knowledgeable, friendly and caring. The space was simple and beautiful. The regular students that went there seemed to really enjoy their practice, and that enthusiasm helped me to instantly feel at home. I continued practicing there in the Jivamukti style for the duration of my time in Philadelphia.

I later moved to New York and have tried several different types of yoga. Some classes feel like a tough strength-building workout you’d get at a gym, some feel slow paced and peaceful, some concentrate on stretching and flexibility, and others require more thought, meditation, and reflection. And sometimes, when I’m lucky, a yoga class perfectly blends exercises of the body and mind that leave me feeling alive, creative, peaceful and full of energy all at the same time.

My favorite thing about yoga is how curious each new learning and experience leaves me. This curiosity sparked my desire to complete a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified training in New York. Training taught me a little bit of everything including the history of yoga, Sanskrit, anatomy, meditation and how to practically instruct a class. Over the next few weeks of Yoga Month, stay tuned for more posts from me including inspiring web sites, people, and products. And feel free to ask questions!

Namaste,

Katie

happy yoga month!

september is yoga month!  the purpose of the national yoga campaign is to educate people about the many benefits of yoga and inspire them to live healthier, happier lives. and part of this is to offer one week of free yoga at 1000+ participating studios nationwide!  this is for new students, but all you have to do is take this card to your local yoga studio during the month of september. amazing!

stay tuned for some more yoga centric posts this month in celebration :)
