valley green

on the outskirts of philadelphia, past manayunk and mount airy, you’ll find the wissahickon valley of fairmount park and a hidden wonderland known as valley green. the sound of traffic and horns are replaced by birds and trickling water and its hard to believe you’re still technically in the city. this scenic little valley is one of my favorite spots to go for a day of hiking, relaxing, and escaping when i’m feeling a little drained by the hustle and bustle of living downtown. sometimes you just need to get back in touch with nature.

Little Fp’s

Look how lovely these illustrations are from the designers here at home office.

They are so adorable and bring great personality to the clothes. We wish we could bring them to life for a day at the office.

I see a mixture here of the Candy and Meadow girl.

california girls

as you may have seen by now, free people has categorized our customers into 5 different styles and given them names. well today for the blog our carlsbad, california, location put together an outfit for each style using their favorite fp items! check out the five fp girls: california style!

sandy is the beach-going, laid back surfer girl. she is usually outfitted in our beach line or our sundresses but plays them down with sandals or flip-flops. here she is wearing the gorgeous lace embrace skirt as a dress, with the seed bead stretch waist belt and charlie hat!

lou is a tomboy and she loves we the free – she wears tees and boyfriend jeans and throws on a pair of converse or funky boots to complete her look. she lives in our jersey raglan top, shown here with the acid wash knit pant!

meadow
meadow is bohemian and she loves our flower headbands, crochet tops and woodstock-inspired clothing. she pairs her outfits with gladiators or cowboy boots and she most definitely is attending coachella! she adores tops like the lace flutter tunic or chrissy lace drape top, worn here with a crochet flower on lace headband and patchwork rugged cutoffs, and hippie jewelry like the devandra layered necklace.

ginger
ginger is the girl that comes in looking for a stunning dress to wear out on the town! she loves our tight-fitting dresses like the downtown date dress and sexy tops that show off her figure. here she’s wearing the poison ivy tunic (similar to the ruffled flowers shift dress) over the ruffled layers skirt.

candy
candy is our pretty in pink girl – everything she picks out has beautiful detailing and is very girly! she loves sweet floral and ruffle dresses like the dazzling ditsy dress and the streamer ruffle dress, shown here with the field of dreams necklace.

we had a little tea party towards the end of the day today as a fond farewell to one of our designers who is leaving us this week.  that’s her channeling julia roberts in the polka dot dress up top- we will miss her and wish her the best of luck!

pretty pretty pots

i just saw these fabric-covered pots on creature comforts today and i thought they would make a perfect follow-up to my post about plants.  instead of splurging on nice flower pots, buy a bunch of standard cheap ones and cover them with pretty patterned fabric!

this is one of those projects you can be really creative with- if you have scraps of fabric lying around at home you can combine different colors and textures to make a really unique looking flower pot.  or you could take an approach like the tutorial on lavender and limes and use soft vintage looking floral fabrics you can find at an arts & crafts or fabric store.  OR this is another great use for old free people shopping bags! either way the results are one-of-a-kind and add a little touch of unexpected cheer to your potted plants.

all you need are some terracotta pots, fabric, mod podge (to coat the fabric with so it stays on the pot), and a brush (for applying the mod podge)! for more detailed instructions check out lavender and limes.

bring spring indoors

plants are really pretty to look at but they’re also good to have around the home because they improve air quality.  they’re literally a breath of fresh air, and a way to bring a little bit of the spring that’s blooming outside into your home.

similar to the paper whites we posted about a little while back, amaryllis flowers are really easy to plant inside.  plus they come in bright shades of pink and red that are a welcome burst of spring color after the brutal winter we’ve had!

you can follow the same instructions as the paperwhites to do this yourself (see here) – the only difference is you’ll need a larger vase because these bulbs are much bigger, as you can see! the flowers grow pretty tall too so it’s a good idea to use a stake to keep them standing upright as they grow.

i never would have thought succulents could be so beautiful but they come in a huge variety of colors and textures you can combine to make a really beautiful plant… and you can be creative with the potting and arrangement to create something really unique.

instructions for planting your own succulents can be found here.

and just because… this wall of succulents is amazing:
